Package: xfntbas
Version: 3.1.1-1

As distributed, the file /etc/rc.misc/xfs contains the 8 lines:

#!/bin/sh
# this file fires up the X11 font server
# on debian system this is disabled by default. To enable it, remove the
# comment sign in front of xfs and edit /etc/X11/fs/config to suit your
system

export PATH=/usr/bin/X11:$PATH

#xfs -config /etc/X11/fs/config

However, xfs does not put itself in the background, so that last line
should end in &

Also: the documentation for xfntbas is poor, which is why I'm trying
to run the font server in the first place.

I need set up some fonts under X to manipulate a special character
set. However, there's no documentation on either the pcf or bdf
fonts. There's not even documentation on the bdftopcf (or bdftops)
program. There's no pcftobdf program.

However, there is a fstobdf program. Also, I happen to know from
experience that the bdf format is "human readable". So, I expect that
by firing up the font server I'll be able take and clone existing
fonts even though I don't really have the proper docs.
