Subject: xbaseR6 recommends all sorts of things
Precedence: air-mail

Package: xbaseR6
Version: 3.1.1-1

The xbaseR6 control file contains the following information:

 Recommended: xfntbas, xbaseR5 | xr5shlib, x8514 | xagx | xmach8 |
               xmach32 | xmach64 | xmono | xp9000 | xs3 | xsvga | xvga16
|
               xw32, xfnt75, xcompR6,
              emacs | xaxe | xcoral,
              ghostviewR6, gxditviewR6, xxgdbR6, fvwmR6, gcc
Optional: xfig, xfnt100, xfntscl, xfntbig, gnuplot, seyon, xdevelR6

The X servers I can understand. However, much of the rest is
questionable.

Surely the fonts should be Depended on by the X server(s) rather than
the clients ?

It is not necessary to practically force the user to select an
X-native editor if they don't want to (and in any case, if you want to
mention Emacs you should mention emacs-x).

It is *definitely* not necessary to mention explicitly in the Optional
field half a dozen applications that they might want to install. If
they want to install these applications the user will do so
themselves; you should not get dselect to preempt this by filling the
Optional field full of stuff like that.

Finally, what is GCC doing in there ?!

Ian.
