Subject: man pages not in database not found

Package: man
Version: 2.3.6
Debian_Revision: 0

I just installed a new package I am putting together and tried to read
a manual page from it. It appears that `man' cannot find and format
the manual page until the manual page database has been rebuilt with
`mandb'. BTW, older versions did not have this problem, I think.

$ man amd
No manual entry for amd
$ ls -l /usr/man/man8/amd.8
-rw-r--r--   1 root     root         6763 May 15 21:53 /usr/man/man8/amd.8
$ su
Password:
# mandb
Updating system database: /var/catman/index.db
[...]
9 man directories changed, 1317 pages, 652 (49%) cache hits, 0 stray cats.
# exit
exit
$ man amd
Reformatting amd(8), please wait...
