When my news server ran out of space and throttled itself, rnews said
(in /var/log/news.crit):

Apr 21 02:30:46 chiark rnews: cant open /var/spool/news/in.coming/tmp/unknowna28636 No such file or directory
Apr 21 02:30:47 chiark rnews: cant open /var/spool/news/in.coming/tmp/unknowna28639 No such file or directory
Apr 21 02:30:48 chiark rnews: cant open /var/spool/news/in.coming/tmp/unknowna28642 No such file or directory

This may(?) also have to be fixed in the inewsinn package.
