Some problems I've found with TeX under Debian 0.93R5. Some are bugs,
others aren't.

 - The versions of LaTeX, AMSLaTeX, Babel et cetera are *OLD*. Newer
versions of LaTeX have better support for 8-bit input (inputenc.sty),
for example. The new version of AMSLaTeX, v1.2, is a great improvement
over v1.1. (BTW, where are the AMSLaTeX docs? And the Babel docs?
   They're not under /usr/doc)

 - XDvi app-defaults are installed with wrong name (appended "-deb.tmp").
This makes xdvi call MakeTeXPk in a wrong way (the mfmode string is
defined in the app-defaults) that runs metafont for fontfiles that may
already exist (if they were created by dvips, e.g., which makes the
   correct call to MakeTeXPk).

 - Install should ask what hyphenation patterns we want loaded by
default. Should also ask what mfmode we want and what papersize.

 - Where is the beton package? (for use concrete and Euler math fonts.)

 - AucTeX command menu should be rightly configured. There is no command
"LaTeX2e" in debian, for example. And what about the Command/print menu?
Install should not ask about our TeX printers? I think that at least
there should be some documentation telling us where to change this.

 - What is the path that xdvi/dvips uses for search pk files? It just
looks for pk fonts under /var/spool/texmf/fonts? The fonts are
not supposed to be moved to another place? If the are not, I suggest
that fonts should be created under /var/lib/texmf/fonts. But maybe
you decided this because of permision problems...

Besides the fact that I had to get ALL the LaTeX core, Babel, Graphics,
etc. from CTAN, I'm pretty happy with my TeX setup...

Waiting for you response. Regards, Emilio.

New bug report received and forwarded.

Your message didn't have a Package: line at the start (in the pseudo-header following the real mail header), or didn't have a psuedo-header at all.

This makes it much harder for us to categorise and deal with your problem report; please ensure that you say which package(s) and version(s) the problem is with next time. Some time in the future the problem reports system may start rejecting such messages.
