Package: xfntbas, xfnt75, xfntscl
Version: 3.1.1-1
These packages produce messages at installation time of the form:
Setting up xfntbas ...
If you want to use the font server, edit /etc/rc.misc/xfs to fire it
up. You'll have to edit /etc/X11/fs/config to reflect your setup.
and
Setting up xfnt75 ...
If you use the font server, please update /etc/X11/fs/config to
include /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/
However, they don't wait for the user to acknowledge them, so the user
could easily miss them.
It seems to me that these kind of messages belong with the package
containing the font server, which could advise which config files you
have to edit if you want to use the fontserver, and tell you that
you'll have to make sure that all the directories with the fonts are
listed in /etc/X11/fs/config.
Alternatively, the xfnt* postinst scripts could update
/etc/X11/fs/config, but that's obviously extra programming effort.
Whatever you do, if you produce a message that the user needs to read
you have to get them to press `enter' on it - otherwise it may just
scroll by while they're not looking.
Ian.
