Yes, it should.

I'm going to put this bug on the back burner; it'll get fixed as a
side effect of the forthcoming rewrite of dpkg in C.  In the meantime
you should use
  grep vmstat /var/lib/dpkg/info/*.list
which is hardly elegant, but at least it works.

If you need it fixed urgently let me know (or, even better, submit a
patch).
