Subject: UUCP package comments (was Bug#55)
Package: uucp
(This was originally Bug#55, submitted by David C P Gray
<davidg@iago.dialix.oz.au>. It was erroneously marked as done.)
The uucp package leaves /root.deb behind after it installs.
It has been built to use the 'native' Taylor config rather than the
better established HDB. Personally I prefer the Taylor format, but
wasn't this thrashed out on debian-devel a while back? I seem to
remember that the HDB format was decided on because of the quantities
of reference information available for it. Maybe I missed something
since then...
Regardless of the format chosen, it would be useful if there were some
example (or skeletal) config files and/or documentation on setting
them up included with the package.
A handful of info files are placed in /usr/info/ but there is no
postinst script to run 'install-info'.
User 'uucp' needs to be added to the 'dialout' group so that it can
use the modem ports.
And finally, not strictly a bug, but... The UUCP package requires that
'rmail' be somewhere in the path and throws incoming mail away if it
is not! Currently, rmail is in /usr/sbin/ which is not part of the
standard user environment. Maybe it should be linked to /usr/bin/...
(what does the FSSTND say?)
