The perl package in devel has been pre-installed on the base disks. You don't
need the package unless you are upgrading an older base.

Learn Python instead (someone will probably hand me my head for that).

A PC. I don't follow your question :) I didn't get a very decent report
from him I was hoping he'd report this himself. He just said that when
he tried installing wu-ftpd it failed trying to find some file with a
perl extension. Then he installed the perl package and installed
wu-ftpd again and it was okay.
I didn't realize perl was on the base disks. What is the perl devel
package for then? Base disks just contain a minimal install or something?
Excuse my ignorance of perl, i've never written anything in it before.

This is passed on to me by a friend.
He said he tried installing the wu-ftpd package but it failed on
some perl header file. So he installed perl and then tried again
and it worked. Maybe wu-ftpd should have a dependency on perl?
