Subject: Anyone playing Iron Helix??

Hi all,
I am just about to run my little body out to the software store and
spend some of that money I got for Christmas. I have heard rave reviews
on the game Iron Helix, but before I buy it I would like to hear from
anyone who has had some experience with this game. The burning question
is ---> Does it suport patch caching? (did I spell that right) <---
Every Windows game I have purchased up to now does not. Anybody know?
Thanks,
Daniel Koppen

Subject: Compatibility problems with MegaEM 2.0

Is it me or the new MegaEM has lost its compatibility with some
games? I can't play Warlords ][ anymore. I created a batch file that
was loading MegaEM 2.01 automatically. I updated 2.01 for 2.02, but I
didn't touch the batch file. Now, Warlords ][ tells me that it can't
init the sound device. I tried with the -X2 or -FAST switches, but it
didn't work.
Anyone tried the game or has encountered the same problem with
another game? I think I'll go back to 2.01.

I downloaded drum.zip from EPAS (MIDI drum player), but I can't get it to
play the local patches for GUS. There seems to be no option to set it up
for what you want it to play. Is this for external MIDI devices only?

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Can the GUS coexist with the SB16 just as it can with the SB?

I am borrowing someone's CDROM drive with the SB16 to interface it.. do
I need to ditch the GUS to get this combo to work? :-(

thanks,

Iain

I just installed the new Windows drivers from Patch Maker Lite v1.10 and I am
having some problems. For some reason, when I go into Patch Manager, it
doesn't list any patches as either available or loaded into RAM. When I use
MidiSoft, everything plays fine. I tried loading the patch names from a MIDI
file, and that didn't make any difference. I also tried using General MIDI
names and patch header names, and that doesn't do anything either. Does
anyone have and ideas? Thanks a lot. later...

Subject: GUS initialisation

As recommended in the GUS manual and by SETGUS I have both a
DEVICE=ULTRINIT.SYS in my config.sys and a ULTRINIT.EXE call in my
autoexec.bat. (I hope I remembered the name correctly) My question is
do I really need both? If so why?

Is it perfectly acceptable to change the GUS parameters termporarily
using ULTRINIT.EXE? A suggestion I saw for running DOOM with suitable
IRQ's.

Thanks for any help here,

I am fed up with this crap from Gravis.. I boght a sound card for sound
and not for just it being in my computer.. 1. How come when you people say
a game will support the gus it never does.. ** Welcome to relality SBOS and MEGA EM no metter if the version is going to be two billion they will always suck
anyways.** 2. How do you expect people to get the drivers? FTP sites that don't
even have them months after release or your bbs which is always busy.. people
since this is such a new sound card you need more disks to be sent. 3. People
like me are fed up with your stupid "They will be out by next month" crap as...

bla.bla...bla,bla.bla, bla.
 ---------------------------------------------------------------

This is very nice and all, but all its going to do is cause more bitching
on this 'daily digest'. Try doing it on the usenet comp.ibm.pc.soundcard
they like this kind of stuff there....We all have our share of problems, even
people who buy the real soundblaster have problems.!!!! I believe its called LIFE!

I got a little peace of advice once when I was younger, as I was bitching about
a modem I once owned.... "Sell it!"

ciao.

I installed the new drivers that came with Patch Maker lite and now I
don't get any MIDI sound what so ever. Attempting to use patch manager
shows that it can't load in the patches to GUS memory. When you click on
the ">>" icon, nothing happens. The patch name doesn't move over to the
right side. Anybody have any idea of what could be causing this.

We are using the new 32-bit DLL version. However, Gravis is racing
to get a version, so there hopefully will be direct GUS support before
too long. Currently, SC2k seems to work fine with SBOS though.
