Greetings one and all!

'Tis the season for new software and new problems getting it to work
with the GUS. I got Front Page Sports Football Pro and am having problems
with the sound (big shock). The crowd noise works fine most of the time
along with the player grunts, voices, etc., but every once in a while,
i get this sound that sounds like a machine gun (I think its supposed to
be a big cheer). Anyone else have similar problems/ suggestions?

Later Daze!

Subject: GUS and SB Coexistance

Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I hate being a "newbie")
but here it goes.
I'm trying to get my GUS (256k DRAM) to coexist with my SB (v2.0).
I have read the coexistance FAQ on epas, but am still having some trouble.
I have my GUS on IRQ 5, DMA 3, and on port 240. My SB is on DMA 1, IRQ 7,
and DMA 1. Here is the batch file I use to activate my REAL SB:

	@echo off
	set ultrasnd=240,3,1,5,7
	call sbos.bat
	call sbos.bat -f
	set ultrasnd=240,3,1,5,5
	ultrinit -l -o

Here is my problem. When I run the above batch file, everything goes
smoothly. But then, when I run a game that supports SB, the music works fine,
but no digital sounds are played. I'm using SBOS v2.08. The reason I'm
trying to do this is because I find that SBOS works with very little of my
software. Thanks a lot. If I need to supply more information, please
tell me!

I pulled the DOOMGUS.TXT file off of EPAS, I was getting some music but no
digital sounds (ok, short burps of static.) So, I did the following:

I am fed up with this crap from Gravis.. I boght a sound card for sound
and not for just it being in my computer.. 1. How come when you people say
a game will support the gus it never does.. ** Welcome to relality SBOS and
MEGA EM no metter if the version is going to be two billion they will always
suck anyways.** 2. How do you expect people to get the drivers? FTP sites that don't
even have them months after release or your bbs which is always busy.. people
since this is such a new sound card you need more disks to be sent. 3. People
like me are fed up with your stupid "They will be out by next month" crap as
far as the OS/2 2.1 drivers! I don't care if you have to acctually program
for once Gravis I want my drivers and I want them now!, SB 16 already had
os/2 drivers as it came out!.. Not only that it didn't have any compatiblity
problems. Hey I am just talking about OS/2 2.1 drivers what about WIN NT drivers
I know alot of people what those.. Come Gravis Microsoft is not a god and there
is other operating systems from IBM support them... and At least let people
like me know what in the world is going on

It's done...

Tired of using MEGA-EM with this game, I carefully studied the dreaded
SNDDRV.LBX. The structure is so simple that I made a clone containing
only GUS AIL drivers. This allows to use the 16 bits patches for a better
sound.

The result can be found in the submit directory of epas. It is called
MOO_GUS.ZIP. Please read the README.1ST before installing.

Could someone with a good newsfeed send the news to c.s.i.p.strategic
and c.s.i.p.soundcard

I still wonder why Microprose didn't include them.

I recall seeing a few posts about Rebel Assault a short time ago, but I
didn't pay any attention to them, of course, because I didn't have the
game. Well, I have it now, so I apologize for wasting bandwidth on a
question that may have already been answered.

The upshot is, the sound is *terrible*! No matter what I do, I get loud,
annoying buzzing sounds, skipping digitized voices, and generally
intolerable noise all the time.

I have tried everything suggested in the RA manual, including removing all
reference to memory managers, slowing down the frame rate, etc. I even
downloaded the latest patch from LucasArts in California, all to no avail.
I am on the verge of tossing this puppy out the window if I can't get it
to work. I can't even get it to work with SBOS (it reboots if I try).

So, please, if anyone has some insight into this frustrating problem, I
would love to hear from you.

Subject: video "hash" appears when SBOS loaded. How do I fix it?

I just got my GUS a few days ago, and am pleased so far. It sure sounds a
heck of alot better than Soundblasters of any kind. Here's my problem:
When I load SBOS, some of the characters that appear on the screen look
'funny' as in....they basically look like a normal character with 'static'
over them. SBOS is probably messed up with my video adapter, but the GUS
is three slots over from the video card.
Here's a bit of my system set-up:
286-12(I know, you feel sorry for me to :)
2 meg of extended RAM
Quadtel EGA/barely VGA video adapter with very old large-screen
monitor that does EGA nicely, and VGA when it feels like it(really!)
40 meg MFM hard drive.

I tried the new SBOS, but it really messes up my screen then.
I've ordered a new VGA monitor and card, but would still like
to know what's going on.
I'll also be getting a 386sx16 with 4 mb on it, and maybe that will help.
Obviously, SBOS is interferring with my video ram so....

*** NOTE: Step 3 is only required for DOOM v1.0 / Operating System 0.99 ***

(3) You will also need to copy ULTRAMID.INI into your DOOM directory and
rename it to DMXGUS.INI (or find and use the DMXGUS.INI file).

This fixed all the sounds for me, now I get awesome music and I love the
3d sounds! I'm not having too much trouble with front/back with this game,
and wandering around looking/listening for targets is great.

Off the subject (email me directly please) - How do I get to the chainsaw!
