hi..

Try setting the DMA channel of the Adaptec to 5 (is default on 1542b), and
set the DMA channel of the gus to 6.. This works for me, but i've got the
2.06 disks, and i hope your friend has got them too...

by the way, i had the same problems when i set my 1542b to dma 7...

Hope it works..

A friend of mine just got a GUS, and bought the extra DRAMS.
But the Ram test only shows 768 k, so he tried the other chips
in lower banks and they worked fine.
He is a technician, and wants to know if he should re-solder the
sockets, or is there a simple way to fix it?
Thanks
BTW don't try to tell me to get a GUS! That would be preaching to the
converted.

Has anyone else tried Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.0 with the new SBOS
v3.7B2? I tried for a good while today, and could only get hard lockups
(i.e., required hard reset to get control back). Any ideas?

Return to Zork has native support for GUS. You should able to select
Ultrasound in the setup.

Actually :)
RTZ and RTZ-CD have GUS drivers included in the package. It's on the install
menu...

Also, there is a RTZ 1.1 update. ftp to netcom.com and it's in the
pub/activis directory.

Subject: Help: Megaem + X-wing = Silence

I had X-wing running (more-or-less) under SBOS, but wanted to try
running it under Megaem. I have installed Megaem (version 23B)
and configued X-wing for Soundblaster. The result: DEAD silence!

I am using a 386DX computer at 33mHz, running DOS 5.0 and using
EMM386.EXE (provided with Windows 3.1). Surely this must be a
fairly common configuration. If you have managed to get X-wing
and Megaem to work together using EMM386.EXE, would you please
email me copies of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files where
you configure (/initialize) the GUS card and the various needed
TSRs, IRQs, etc.

Many thanks.

Subject: IRQ's

I'm just curious: is there any reason NOT to have the UltraSound and the Sound Blaster IRQ's both set to the same IRQ? I tried it in a few games/applications, and I haven't had any problems, yet. I mean, you don't actually use the SB emulation at the same time as Ultrasound's native mode.

He's full of it. John Smith repeatedly tells us that the MAX is based
around the GF1 and therefore cannot access more than 1 meg.

My understanding is that the MAX is the GUS 3.4 (or something very close)
with 16bit daughtercard and SCSI daughtercard functionality built in. If
that's the case, the current GUS should/will be identical in sound quality
and patch loading ability, and in fact should NOT be outdated as soon as
the MAX arrives, "real soon now (TM)".

Subject: Patch Cacheing

Hello all,

Well, I am having a few problems doing patch cacheing with my GUS and
Cubase/Score for Windows(like...it doesn't work). First of all, does
anyone know why?

Second of all, Who knows of a good patch loading program to load patches
into my 1 MB RAM on my GUS. In other words, maybe I don't need Patch
Cacheing...rather I will have to manually load patches into the GUS from
some other program besides Cubase.

I do know that we get the Patch Manager with the GUS, but I can't figure out
how to load patches that are not part of the GM set. How can I set up my
own sets with custom patches? I would really love to be able to put small
groups of patches into directories and then load them with manually with
some patch loader. If there is nothing out there yet, then I may set out
to write one myself. One thing that would be really cool would be a way
to save a small set of patches as a configuration file, so that you could
simply open that configuration file, and then a small set of patches would
be loaded into the GUS memory.

Anyone know of anything which does any of these things already?

Thanks

hi..

The Gravis should be listed in the soundsetup program, because i had the game
a while back, but i didn't have the 2.06 disks, so i couldn't select this
option... But it is in the Sound-card selection...

Gravutil doesn't work for me either. In fact, none of the Gravis
joystick routines, including the ones in their joystick SDK, can read
my game port (the one on the GUS) properly. They always return random
values. However, the joystick routines in games and the joystick
calibration software from Kraft work fine.

So, if Gravutil jumps around a lot, don't use it. On a 386-33, a
good calibration parameter for the GUS' game port is 22 (so use
ultrajoy 22). Ultrajoy 31 essentially turns off the speed compensation.

Return to Zork has GUS support included.

Strike Commander works fine with SBOS 1.20. Set the game up for SB music
and sound effects.

Gabriel Knights will only work with the GUS under Windows. You must
preload the GM patches for the game as it doesn't support patch caching.

Windows startup has become real slow since I installed my sound card.
Apparently it is searching for several megs of .pat files. Is there any

Subject: Zork Divide Errors

Hi:
I just received Return to Zork for Christmas, and after much
removal of TSRs and hair, got it going with the Ultramid and
GUS drivers supplied with the game. The voices are *much*
better with GUS as the sound driver than anything else I've
tried (sbos and megaem). However, I have a problem, that I
hope someone out there has some insight into.

Every time I try to open the door to the mill in the town, I
get a "Divide Error", and the game freezes up on me. I am
forced to conclude it's the sound driver, because if I'm
playing with sbos rather than the GUS driver, the error does
not happen.

So, I could play the game through with sbos, but I'd really much
prefer to take advantage of the GUS drivers provided with the
game, if they'd work properly :-( . Any help at all would be
appreciated; even if the conclusion is that the GUS drivers
with Ultramid won't work here, maybe someone knows if there
are parameters I should use with sbos or megaem to make the
sound better (the digitized voices click quite badly, makeing
them nearly unintelligible).

Thanks in advance.
