Has anyone been able to get Cakewalk Pro for Windows to work w/ the GUS?
MidiSoft works fine, but Cakewalk doesn't. I am simply getting no output. I
have the MIDI output port set to GUS MIDI synth (not MIDI out) and it doesn't
work. Do I have to load the patches manually into memory before I run
Cakewalk? If so, how will they map? Will they be 0,1,2... according to the
order in which I loaded them, or will they maintain their original patch
number?

Also, regarding WAV2PAT, after I run the conversion, the name is not being
changed on the patch. For example, if I set it up to patch 127 in the
ULTRASND.INI file and then go into Patch Manager, the new patch is there and
it works, but it's still labelled as Gunshot. In addition, does anyone know
if there is or if there will be a version that will allow greater than 32k WAV
files?

Thanks to everyone who can give me some insight and thanks to everyone who has
helped me get this far. Later...
 - Dave

$ I've read that it should work with the GUS if I use DOS4GW.EXE v1.8
$ instead of v1.92 that is on the CD-ROM, but how do I exchange
$ them?? I tried to copy all the *.EXE files to the harddisk and run
$ it from there (after copying DOS4GW v1.8 to the directory), but it
$ just said that it couldn't find the intro-files on the CD-ROM...
$
$ Here's a copy of my REB.BAT (modified to run from the harddisk)...:
$    C:
$    CD\REBEL
$    ASSAULT /x2 /c7 /b220 /i11 /d0 /s700000 /f15 /t300 /u0

Put DOS4GW 1.8 in the c:\rebel directory. Leave the files on the CD ROM
where they are.

Change the batch file to (asuming the CD is drive E:):

E:
C:\REBEL\DOS4GW ASSAULT /x2 /c7 /b220 /i11 /d0 /s700000 /f15 /t300 /u0

By the way, if you are already getting it to work without crashing at
startup, then switching extenders is unlikely to help the sound problem.

How long they take to reply depends on how busy they are and whether your
mail ever reaches them or not.

Just use a male-to-male adapter and connect the headphone out to the GUS'
Line In, and use the Windows mixer or ultrinit -o -l to enable in. The
headphone level matches that the of line in.

Patch Manager has an option to use General MIDI patch names or the
names found in the patch header. By default, Patch Man uses GM names,
so patch 0 is always acoustic piano, patch 1 brite acoustic, etc. Go
into Options Names... to tell it to use the patch headers. Note that
most of the standard GUS patches don't have names in their headers, so
you'll see a lot of question marks.

There are many MIDI jukebox programs on Epas, including MIDI Surfer and
Juker. These let you play lists of songs in the background.

Hello,

I was wondering if the GUS Mail Server was broke? I get the new file
announcements, but when I try to send a request I don't get anything back.

I don't have FTP access (YET), so have to use the mail server every now and
then to get stuff. Does anyone know how to get a account at the local U if
you don't go there, and have a CIS Degree already? I've been trying to get
one for the past 2+ years...

Has anyone been able to get a GUS to work with this CD-ROM game?
The compatability guide posted on the net says to use MEGA-EM,
but Dracula just says "can't find a compatable sound card."

No, everything is exactly the same as it has been for the past year.
Just a note....I tried it in a friends computer and it gave exactly
the same error. This must surely indicate that the problem is with
the sound card.

Great! If you can give me the postal address, I'll send the board as
soon as possible. How do you prefer payment?? Also, can you give me
the price of a midi cable? I've been meaning to get one, so I might as
well order it since I'm posting the card to you. Oh yeah, don't
forget the postage and handling costs.

Thanks John. Can't wait until I've got sound up and running again.
I can't believe the card packed it in just before I got DOOM. Geez.

I mailed the above message to john.smith@gravis.com on monday of this
week but have still not recieved any reply. I believe that it is
because the mail does not get there. John can mail to me, but I cannot
mail back to him. So I have decided to use the digest to get into
touch with him.....which was the way I got into touch with him in the
first place. I apologise to everyone out there, but my GUS has been
out of order for over two weeks now and I really am getting frustrated
not hearing anything from my computer.

								Thanks for the Bandwidth....

Subject: Re: Modus! Windows Mod!

Look into MODUS. It's a windows .MOD player for the GUS. It doesn not
interact well at all with my windows drivers, though. (it basically
cripples them until you load windows again. Also windows will not exit,
after running this program. (i've got to use Modus's crash that dumps you
to dos to get out of windows! :) Anyone else had these problems?) But it
does however sound very good, and allows you to tag a whole ton of mods,
and supports 8 channel mods, and a bunch of other stuff.
