There seems to be a few nasty people who go on epas and delete stuff...

Anyway, i did reupload the TR727 and TR808 and touch tones to archive.epas.
I have put ANASYN3 too... These are full of nice analog sounds. To really
appreciate them it is better to play then in pair. In my case, i have tried
playing them with the SCI in unison (6 simultaneous notes) slightly detuned
and it does give body to the sound. Arp_reso and prophet and odissey will
give good results even with single layering. I'll have to dig up my
archives to find ANASYN2 that has been deleted also from epas.

Ciao,

Sigh...the MusicTime/Trax package from Passport is not patch-caching
aware in its current incarnation. Most unfortunate, since it is
lightyears beyond the MidiSoft stuff and quite a bit cheaper than
WinCake (at least it was when I bought it :-) ). I've gotten word from
Passport about upgrading MusicTime to Encore but no indication yet if
patch-caching is implemented or not: watch this space!

[BTW, considering all the space wasted (:-)) on verbose lists of SBOS
(in)compatabilities and switch settings for games, maybe the
patch-awareness of sundry music software deserves its own list in the
FAQ...assuming it's not there already, of course.]

All you have to do to get Syndicate to work is to nuke the /iio option
in the little batch file (and make sure the /iirq setting is right).
I suppose it does some probing which screws up something.
After that, all is well.

P.S. This is with SBOS 2.0B8. I don't use 9 or 10 because they crashed
a few things that I don't remember.

Thought I might add that the article is basically correct. When I bought the
GUS, I didn't realize the the software limitations it would have for so long.
It's been a year now, and you can still count all the games out there with
GUS native support, on two hands.

I know you can use Miles/DIGPAK drivers. I know about MEGAEM, but sorry, I
don't consider them native mode support. Miles/DIGPAK comes closest
What I want is a game with 32 digital sound channels, like the nox advertises.
Zone 66 was the only game that really showed off any of the GUS potential.

Finally, "technical minefield" may sound a bit harsh, but generally, that's
a pretty clever (accurate) term. I can tell, the author of the article assumes
most of his reader-audience are "average Joe" users. They plug in a card and
expect it to work with no hassles. The GUS hasn't reached that point yet.

Has anyone actually bought Cakewalk Pro/Win 2.0 and seen for themselves that
Patch Caching works? I don't need any of the other new features, but I guess I
will spend the money for the upgrade, but ONLY if it really helps me with GUS.

Thanks...

Hello all,

I am aware that this subject has already been brought up but I seem to have
missed the final verdict: What (shareware) software is currently available to
do this task in DOS or Windows?

As this is an old discussion, could anyone please possible e-mail me a list of
sites and filenames of programs that would fit the bill.

Many thanks in advance,

Grant Carter

As usual I tracked things down after looking around -- midimap.cfg
in /system is where the config files were. I simply swapped it with the
Ultrasound midimap file that is from the install disks...
Amazingly everything works without any problems! I get clear MIDI
playing, MODUS does mods on the GUS, and I still keep the PAS-16 as the
wave sampler/player. Slightly less than perfect -- I can't select the GUS to
play samples (unless I do some tinkering with the startup files). But since
windows doesn't allow multiple multimedia selection very easily (something
that they should improve soon), I'll take this setup for now.
I was wrote back that it wouldn't work (the PAS-16 and GUS in windows)
 but this is working great.

I'm trying to track down the file(s) windows uses under MIDI Mapper.
The GUS mapping stuff isn't showing up under the mapper, so I was trying to
track down the source.
Course I am trying to do a bit strange of a procedure -- use a PAS-16
alongside the GUS. So far it works great as long as DMAs and IRQs are not
conflicting. Under Windows, I can use MODUS to play on the GUS while keeping
the nice mixer controls of the PAS-16... I have the GUS playing into the PAS-16, which has a good mixer control area (a bit noisy though). My goal now is to
get the MIDI of the GUS to work, I'm basically using the PAS-16 for wave audio
and the GUS for MIDI.
Drivers lists the GUS stuff installed, now all I need is for the MIDI
Mapper to have the Ultrasound maps laid out so patch caching takes place.

			Any help's appreciated..

Origin's latest, Wing Commander Acadamy has .adv drivers for the game. I
attempted to copy over with GUS adv drivers, run ultramid -c , and then
the game, but it locks. It says: Loading Wing Commander Acad and just
sits there.

With SBOS it loads for less then 1 second until the game starts to pop up,
but sounds HORRIBLE with sbos.

On a last note... Bio Menace, from Apogee, which was slated as supporting
the gus, does not. Although, sounds fair with sbos.
