No, you're not alone out there. I had the same problem with debute_f! first.
I didn't know there was supposed to be a "tunnel", but I figured something
was wrong with it. I didn't get the "Can't free up.." message though. The
demo just continued after the (as I saw it) blinking tunnel-dots part 'til
the end. But, a couple of days later, I showed it to a friend, and then the
tunnel-part worked okay, but this time, the demo froze directly afterwards,
with the demo-group's logo in the middle of the screen. Cold-boot was the
only remedy. I guess they're still in beta. Anyway, demos mostly knock on
the hardware pretty hard, and I'm not surprised when they work differently
when I run 'em the second time.

Geez, I hate when I have to followup to myself. Plan B actually ran fine
for a while (no sound, I think) until it rebooted my machine. As has been
pointed out elsewhere it's emf_ecl.exe that produced the Packed File is
Corrupt error. I tried running loadfix, but it didn't work quite right. But
then, I'm using DRDOS 6.0, not MS-DOS Anything...

[Symptom - DOS stereo recording works fine, Windows does not.]

I think it's a bug in the device driver. I wrote a small program
that queries the capabilities of the wave input device, and it only
reports one channel input (mono), but then in the input format enumeration,
enumerates stereo formats. (These should match.)

I haven't tried writing my own recording program that ignores the info.
returned from the driver, but my guess is that it can record stereo
with the Windows driver, but that programs that check the capabilities
(like they should) will only use mono on the GUS.

I reported this as a bug to this list 2 or three volumes ago, but it's
still present in the newest driver.

If anyone wants to see the code that (I think) demonstrates this bug,
let me know. I'd be more than happy to write this up more formally
for Gravis.

Hope this helps.
