For what it's worth, DMP 261B does seem to produce better sound, but it
also locked up my system and contributed to a bout of the dreaded Off-Board
Parity Error, I think...

Has anyone gotten the planb.lzh demo to run? All I got out of it was a
"Packed File is Corrupt" from DOS

I purchased my GUS on the first day that it came out, and I have had
much joy from the wonderful piece of technology. I live in the UK, and
since all the BBS's which tend to GUS files are in the USA and Canada,
I find getting hold of the latest GUS software a tad difficult.

I don't have Internet FTP access, so the UltraSound FAQ's recommended
that I use the GUS mail server at mail-server@nike.pz.uni-konstanz.de or
using the UltraSound request server at ultrasound-request@dsd.es.com to
get hold of files.

My question is how do I request files from these addresses and how can
files be transferred through EMAIL so I can recieve them and use them
on my computer?

If you could answer this question, I thank you in advance.

In order for me to buy off on a hardware problem, I'd have to
have the same problem in DOS and windows. The GUS records in
stereo just fine using 'playfile' under DOS. Some say that
the Goldwave recorder will record in stereo under WINDOWS provided
that the recording frequency is properly set to 44100 or 22050.
I wonder if Goldwave uses the WINDOWS driver, or if goes directly
to the card? I am going to try and get a copy of the recorder,
but this still does not explain why the WINDOWS driver reports
no stereo-in capabilities.......'john.smith@gravis.com'....

For those of you having problems running EMF's Eclipse ASM '93 intro,
use DOS (5 or 6)'s "loadfix". Type "loadfix emf_ecl" and your intro
may actually work.

Huh? About 99.8% of the .mids available via FTP are in .zip format, so
forgetting the binary switch will make them barf immediately upon
un-zipping.

>Question #2: Playmidi's different succeptibility to corrupt midi files

You lucky dog...on my box, I get back to the DOS prompt and the silly
bugger locks up on the next hard disk access!

>> playmidi
>then selecting cheers from the menu system, reported the corruption,
>then hung my PC.

>Is this a bug?

Of course not: IT'S A FEATURE! (Sorry, couldn't resist :-))
