Yikes, then you better tell Gravis to get its ass in gear cause the Turtle
Beach Maui will be shipping, and you may loose a big part of the market...

I've read several msgs about finding or making a cable to connect the internal audio out of a cd-rom (Toshiba 3401 in my case) to the GUS, but am still confused as to the details. Has anyone been able to find an off-the-shelf cable? If not, how do I make one? What kind of wire and connectors do I need and where do I get them? Thanks.

Subject: Help with Origin FX screen saver for windows
Message-ID: <23063010514920@biost.biostat.wisc.edu>

I'm new to the GUS world. I bought my GUS last Saturday, and have been
on the mailing list since last Tuesday or so.

Origin FX is Origin's Windows screen saver. It purports to support sound
blaster, SB Pro, Adlib, and Roland MT-32.

There are a number of driver files, some with the tempting name,

AILADLIB.DLL
AILMT32.DLL

To which, I tried to substitute the Miles drivers. No luck.

Further, SBOS (which I know works) won't even produce as much as a tinkle
when I'm running Origin FX under Windows (set up with SB or SB Pro emulation).

 ------------------------------------------------

You can't just copy the Miles driver over a .DLL file. Those are what
they call a Dynamic Linked Library. Basically, it's a piece of code
that can be shared by multiple applications, at run-time. Point is,
it does not have the same format as the typical Miles Drivers.

Hope this helps,

Steph.

Hi all. I bought a GUS with the CDROM upgrade kit a couple of months ago.
I haven't played around with it much until recently.

I have real simple requirements... I want to hear my sound in WINDOWS with
both speakers, and I want the be able to hear the sound off of the CDs with
both speakers. As you may have guessed... I am only getting sound through
one speaker and it is very irritating.

I have tried installing it several times but when I get to the WinGus program
I get errors.

The latest error says Compile Error: Invalid Command on script line 1.
If I hit ok it goes through line 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Before it used to say
too many lines in some file.

Can anyone help me get this installed properly? Barring that... does anyone
want to purchase this thing from me?

Thanks

Kelly Myhre

Ha! Back on internet again. Finally got a login in Australia that works
properly (almost). Anyway, I'm after advice on:

. how legal is it to upload samples of commercial equipment (synths
, drum machines) on epas ?

. what possibilities are there for improving 8-bit samples? I was thinking
of running some through Csound heterodyne filter and additive synthesis
routines (to take the noise out of fairly pure sounding noises). Anyone tried
this? Care to show me the Csound orc file?

Anyway, my keyboard isn't configured properly so typing is a bit of a chore
at the moment. I'm still trying to borrow a midi keyboard here to write some
more mid files (got one promised, though). See ya,

Chris

Someone discussed the missing TREMSTR a while ago. The TREMSTR patch
has never existed (presumably they intended producing one, but didn't
in the end). The mistake was leaving the reference to it in the file
DEFAULT.CFG which relates patch number to file name (or ULTRASND.INI
for Windows). In previous releases, this patch number duplicated the
MARCATO patch so the fix is to change the lookup files so that patch 44
or 45 (which was TREMSTR) points to MARCATO.

I tried to reply to this by direct mail, but hudlink.hoboken.nj.us was
unknown somewhere and it bounced.

Well, it seems like there are quite a lot of people whose
registration cards have not been received by Gravis and hence
have not received the install disks! I have sent email to
John Smith about it about two months ago (and I bought my card
in November!), and he asked me to send him my home address. I
did. He replied a few days later saying that he would update
the records. After waiting for a few weeks, I still didn't
get ANYTHING in the mail (snail mail, that is) and I wrote
John Smith another email message asking what the hold up was.
In my message I once again listed my current home address just
in case. Guess what? He replied saying that the address was
different from what was in their records! So what was he
doing with my address after I sent it to him that first
time????!!@#*$ I then sent him another email message asking
him to find out WHEN the disks have been sent to me, if at
all, and to WHERE. His reply:

>T>My old address is less than a mile away. My old roommates
> >have not received any mail for me since I moved. Can you
> >please check WHEN the disks were mailed to me? I would hope
> >Gravis has a record of that.
>
>All the packages were placed in a BIG box. Taken to the post office and
>dumped off. There is no way to track a single package.

It is unclear from his response if there is a package FOR ME
INSIDE that "BIG" box!! What does "All the packages" mean?
Does that mean packages to ***EVERY*** GUS owner? I don't
care how big that "BIG box" is if there is no package inside
addressed to me. Does he care to at least find out if indeed
a package for me is inside that BIG box from their records?
And did he basically mean from his last sentence that if I
didn't receive the package then it's just too bad 'cuz Gravis
wouldn't care to make sure that I, a customer who paid good
money to buy their product, would get what every other
customer was promised to receive?

Yes, I am pissed!! Since the day I bought the GUS, I never
ever heard from Gravis again. I sent in my registration card
within a week of my getting the card but there was NO
acknowledgment whatsoever of their having received it. I
never received the GM patches as was announced way back in
December or so. True, I could ftp them off from epas, and
that was basically what I have been doing, but that is
besides the point. The point is I have NOT been treated
fairly as a customer. I don't get what I was told I would
get. And now it seems like they are saying, "You didn't get
your Power chords and Midisoft? Ah, tough luck! Deal!"

I WANT MY DISKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And John Smith, DON'T say you
don't know my address! I sent it to you TWICE!!! And it
better have been updated! And don't tell me your BIG BOX
stories. The point is I STILL DON'T HAVE MY DISKS!!!!!!

I bought my gus in early april and registered just before Gravis moved. I still
haven't gotten my updated software. So I called the number to check if my
registration card was recieved. the female sexy phone voice on the other end
of the phone told me yes indeed my registration was recieved. But where is my
upgrade box? She told me that there is another mailing in a couple of weeks
and I'll have to wait till then.
Does this mean I'll get the new ail drivers too?

sigh.

answering a few questions I had about my card.

Also I'd like to thank the person who game me a T-Shirt... i believe his

The digital sounds are interfering with the game's joystick read function.
Unplug the joystick and use the ASD keys for movement, or turn off the
sounds.
