I have 7th guest and I use it as my music/speech device under SBOS v2.04
and it works VERY well. No problems with sound yet.. here's my setup for
future owners: SB emulation ---> IRQ 7 DMA 1 base:A220H
If it matters, my setup is a 386DX/33 with 4 megs RAM and a CHEAP SLOW
Mtsumi CD drive (150KB/sec., 600+ ms access time -- really).
Tip: the manual does not reccommend using the Super VGA setting with my
setup, but I added a crudload of buffers in my CD-ROM driver and* MSCDEX,
and it runs in SVGA mode very well, though a little sluggish...but as
Gravis might say -- "It's very tolerable."

Hello all, I have a suggestion. When reporting problems or successes please include the version number of the card you have. I think there are at least two versions of the card out and there may be a difference even a slight one. Just a thought.

Hi there,

Has anyone got SBOS to work with Populous 2? The intro plays fine but all I
got in the game is a screech of garbage then no sound at all. Also, SBOS
does not work with Prince of Persia 2's digitized sound. The program hung
at the intro after the line 'In ancient Persia'. The only way I can play it
is to turn off the digitized effect. Anyone got a fix to this? I am using
SBOS v2.04 from the latest installation disk.

Has anyone gotten Prince of Persia 2 to work properly with Sound Blaster
emulation? I have tried many-a-switch with SBOS 2.04 and have not been
able to get voice or other digital sounds to work. They always seem to
either cut out early or crash (and many times both). It will either
crash upon leaving the intro if I let it try to do the speech, or if I
skip the speech, it will crash shortly into the game. Also, the music sounds
incredibly crappy compared to a Sound Blaster. The instruments sound out
of tune (something I have complained about before) and there is a 'raspy'
sound that should be a crisp drum line I believe.

Any suggestions would be appreciated - this game sounds incredible on a
mono SB - and given the track record for SBOS improving sounds, I would
like to get this one working.

For all those having problems getting Prince of Persia 2 to work with
the GUS...use SBOS v1.20. 2.04 hangs on me, but 1.20 works...although
there are some weird noises coming out of it...at least I can play it.

Yeah, if I try to load SBOS 2.06 high, QEMM gives me an error. It works fine
if I load it low.

Still, I thought Gravis would have fixed the Strike Commader vulcan-gun
problem. On a genuine SB, the canon sounds like a "repeating drum." On SBOS
2.0x, it still sounds like this high-pitched whine.

The engine noise in Strike Commander also could use some work . SBOS 2.0B6
doesn't seem to help any. I like the idea of the "config file" in SBOS 2.06,
however.
So it isn't all bad.

We sure can, John. I'm glad to see that you invite us to ask you the
questions we're keeping to ourselves, since the last couple of 10-ish
issues of the GUS Digest.

Question 1: What did you guys do to the SETGUS and ULTRINIT exe-files
on the 2.01 set of disks. (comparing to the v1.22 disks)?

I ask this, because I can't run SETGUS -and- ULTRINIT.
My computer locks up on me, and I have to re-boot.
(I can't run ULTRAMOD either, by the way. Same effect.)

Everything works with the 1.22 disks/programs.

Question 2: Are you testing ALONE IN THE DARK (game) with SBOS
to figure out what causes the backward-talking sounds?
I haven't tried newer versions than 2.04, but with
2.04 - you get backward talking. SBOS 1.22 worked fine.

 Thanks John!
 /Erik

Haven't tried Covox's voice recognition software -- but I did try a
couple of the shareware voice recognition programs that are out there
for Windows ... and they worked fine. That's the whole point of
having a Windows driver.
