Have heard from a friend

Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space - only supports digitised voices on the GUS -
ie NO MUSIC.

Disappointment.

Someone post this to the digest.

Sorry, as much as I'd like to I don't think this would be a wise thing to
do. After all, Power Chords & Midisoft Recording Session are both full
pieces of commercial software, that would be much appreciated by owners
of other sound cards. If anyone uploads it, it must be John Smith.
Obviously, uploading GUS Installation disks is a different matter as
they're specific to a piece of hardware and are not much use to anybody else.

I should also apologise to other UK GUS owners who haven't yet received
the bundle, but from James Andrews' message yesterday, hopefully Optech
will be sending out the rest in a couple of days. I was led to believe
that they were sending them out as they came off the duplicators.

Anyhow, I have had more of an opportunity to use Midisoft RS and find it
to be really rather quirky, compared with, say, Cakewalk. It definitely
supports patch cacheing though. It still has a lot going for it and I
find it preferable to WinJammer (as will anyone who reads musical
notation).

Once again, I hope you other Gussers get your freebie progs soon.

------------

Two problems with my earlier posting promising some new midi files especially
tuned up for GUS on Epas.

The bad news is I can't get on to Epas so I can't upload the files. I'll
try again in the morning (actually, it is almost morning ...).

Good news is, there's a third! It's not a bad one either. Percussion lost a
bit in the translation though. BTW anyone know how to adjust volume and pan
for the different percussion noises on channel 10 (using midi messages- not by
doing anything to config files)?

Chris.

By the tone of messages lately, I think we should start up a new newsgroup for
our quickly emerging religion.

alt.religion.soundcard.gus

wReam can be the leader, as he as emerged as one.

HI GUSsers,

As an answer to the one who JOKED about PP2's native GUS use..
Needless to say, it hasn't.
Now for the 'compatibility' issue with SBOS 2.04:
The SB gets detected ok.
I tried it with most options I could think of, all gave me the nice opening
music (which I already hate cause I had to listen to the same tune for
too many times), and when it started talking - it spoke few words, locked
the screeen and kept with the music till it died too.
This game's subtitle is 'The shadow and the flame', but I think that for
us GUS owners 'The choke and the silence' is a more suitable one.. :)

Another game that I tried was FlashBack (ANotherWorld II) - It didn't
detect the SB on IRQ5 so I changed it to 7 in my blaster setting, and
it helped. I didn't hear it on a real SB, but I *think* I should hear
digitized sounds of footsteps, gunshots, etc, instead of 'pick pick'
sounds, which of course sound on SBOS's free time and not necessarily
with conjuction to whats going on , on the screen.

So, unless something in the settings/options was faulty (tried it on
a 386sx/25, 120MB HD, Trident SVGA 1Mb, nothing fancy..),
don't bother rushing to the stores..

Pathetic ? still.

/Shmulik.

This message is for the person who asked if POP2 supported the GUS
in native mode. The answer is no. I received the game monday and I was
disppointed too, but I was expecting it.
About Lemmings 2, Brad Craig said that Psygnosis (Is that right
name?) was working on a GUS patch. Don't know when it'll come out, but at
the end, we'll have GUS support. :)

[RESPONSE TO LAST QUESTIONS]

IMHO 3d will definitely not work on speakers (at least not on one
pair) because they aren't able to 'place' the sound to a certain
point. If they were we would have had 3d systems for many decades.

If you search for a program which let's you enter notes from your
PC-Keyboard and save/print them, try CAPELLA (there should at least
be a DEMO- version out there).
