I have a multiboot config running with dos 6.22, but my soundcards are
initilized at the beginning of the autoexec.bat before the goto config
line, therefore, I have access to BOTH soundcards in any configuration.
I installed the Gravis software and drivers first and gave it the
appropriate setup=210,3,3,11,5 after the gravis is install it creates a
line something like:

set BLASTER=A2XX IX D1

delete this line, the SB installation will recreate it for the SB with
the correct setup. mine at present are all SB defaults=A220 D1 I7 T2
where A is the address, D=dma, I=irq, and T=SB type (an option not in the
line created by the Gravis by the way.)

You may have to do some playing to get the correct setup for your system,
for example on mine my SCSI controller didn't appreciate my attempting to
set my GUS up at 240 in hex eventhough it is sitting at 340, go fig.

regardless remember to set up the Gravis first, since it's options(except
address) are soft configurable it can be changed easily, the SB will not
be as easily manipulated so give it defaults.

Good Luck...

Reg.

Subject: GUS & SB batch files

Here are the batch files I use for switching between my GUS and Soundblaster
(the mono original). My SB output feeds into my GUS input (you just need a
simple audio cable that any electronics store should carry).

-----------
OPENSB.BAT:
-----------
@ECHO OFF
rem turns on GUS line in/out
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T3
c:\ultrasnd\ultrinit -l -o

-----------
CLOSESB.BAT
-----------
@ECHO OFF
rem turns off GUS line in/out
SET ULTRASND=240,3,3,11,5
C:\ULTRASND\ultrinit.exe
SET ULTRADIR=C:\ULTRASND

---
My GUS is at 240 and it works fine. I have one config.sys/autoexec.bat which
initializes my GUS, and then I just use the OPENSB batch file if I need to
use my SoundBlaster. I then use CLOSESB to go back to using my GUS.
This works really well, and it's a lot simpler than fussing with a TSR to
get Soundblaster compatibility. I recommend using this approach even if
someone doesn't have a Soundblaster: just buy a used one, they're not
expensive. That way you get 100% SB compatibility as well as your GUS!

I don't have a game card per se; I just use the "built in" port on my PC.
This works for me regardless of selected soundcard. Not quite sure how
to help you with your joystick question.

Although I don't have the full game, the later versions of Relentless
should support the GUS natively. At least, that was the case in the
original demo release of Relentless, and EA's demo release of Relentless.
If you can't get SFX from the GUS, I'll upload the 32bit AIL drivers for the
GUS in archive.epas.utoronto.ca. Note: you can't use the regular 32bit
AILs because they've altered theirs (I've tried it myself with the
original demo version, but I got DOS4GW errors and a lot of garbage on
the screen). Hope this helps.

The demo I had supported the GUS natively, and quite frankly, was the
best sounding piece of software I've heard. It even did some psudo-3D
sound effects, though not holographic sound. And it worked flawlessly.
Not a buzz or anything.

Highly recommended for a Gus user...

Hi...

I'm the proud new owner of a (not so new) gus (bought off a freind who couldn't
make the thing work w/all his other "stuff").

I have a couple of simple (or so it would seem) questions:

1. what version of the s/w should I be using, highest rev on th ftp site
is 3.59, but it does not appear to be the most recent???

2. How do I go about hooking a midi keyboard to my gus? is it as simple as
buy/making th midi box and using the midi recording session app??

Thats all for now! Thx -JR

Subject: Midi-Connector Box

I have owned a SB midi-connector box for over 2 years and never
took it out as I read that to use it on the GUS you need to modify some
of the circuitry (Taken from document on GUS sites) which I wasn't
prepared to do. I cant find a GUS midi-connector in Australia so I jsut
did without, using a MPU401 card instead, and I couldn't use the GUS with
my keyboard etc..

Someone just told me that the SB Midi box works with the GUS!
I tried it and YES! It does work! I had it sitting there all this time!

Can someone please explain if there are any incompatibilities that I
haven't found, as it seems to work flawlessly, sending and receiving midi
data to and from teh GUS under DOS and Windows. I can send data dumps
from my MIDI hardare to Cakewalk and save it, plus use the Gravis and my
other Samplers/Modules/Synths all together!

What's the story?

Eesh... you mean, you chose GUS in both music and sound effects, you
lauched up Nascar, calibrate your joystick and never had a problem going
trhu the Menus?!

What are your Ultrasnd settings ?

Thanks, Bye!

Greetings all. I have a question that someone out there might be able to
answer:
I know that Gravis has released their 0.31a drivers for OS/2, but these
only support sound in the Presentation manager, and not in DOS boxes.
Are there any plans for any serious support of OS/2, in the sense of true
drivers for OS/2 DOS Box sessions? As far as I know, there are no
currently existing drivers for DOS which will work under OS/2, due to
their "creative use" or hardware.

Anyone know anything?

Thanks to all who replied to my previous message about getting warcraft
working with the GUS. I picked up the USAIL310.zip archive (the same
night I posted the message) which provided GUS support to the game. There
was however a better sollution. Grab FLOP115.exe from epas. It's an
upgrade to Warcraft for the floppy version. It adds GUS support as well
as makes the 7th level easier. Here's a list of fixes for those
interested:

- 10. WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 1.14?
 --------------------------------------------------------------------

	 * CD-ROM copy protection removed

	 * Human Level 7 made easier

	 * DOS 4/GW extender upgraded to remove some interrupt bugs.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 11. REVISION HISTORY
 --------------------------------------------------------------------

1.15:
Enhanced direct link and modem connectivity
Fixed bug affecting scores over 12,000
Improved copy protection for ease of use
	 Gravis UltraSound support added

1.14:
	 fixed speech bug
1.13:
	 removed CD-ROM copy protection
	 Fixed human level 7 bug
	 Updated DOS 4/GW extender
