What kind of interface does the Gravis ultrasound card (GUS) provide
for a CD-ROM? In particular, an internal CD-ROM drive, for use under
DOS and (maybe) Windows and OS/2. Does the Gravis have a SCSI interface
like the PAS16 card? Can I couple the Mitsumi LU005S with a Gravis to
get CD-quality sound out of the Gravis card?

I'm sorry you can't use GUS, and I'm not a little irritated that I can't
switch to OS/2 and use my GUS!

Gotta go...

Subject: GUS parity error using MIDI output port
To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

I solved the problem with my system hanging with a parity error
when I tried to talk to my synth using Winjammer.
The problem was that I had the "Thru" option set in the Midi menu.
Not only did this cause my system to hang occasionally but
it often caused a song to terminate with a abnormal rapid burst
of notes when I told winjammer to stop playing a song.
I unset this option and everything has worked great!
I'm not using the thru slot on my midi connecter. Would
this be the cause of my original problem?

On my GUS v2.2 I have eight sockets for DRAM. I figure, to get 1MB of on-board
memory, I should have eight 128KB modules. But I've heard much about 256KB
modules? What is true? Can I go out and buy any 1Mbit (128KB) module for my
GUS or should I have something else?

To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

I bought a GUS a while back and I am having some trouble with it
when running in windows. The Media Player and Sound Recorder both play
fine, but whenever I try to record using the Sound Recorder the system
crashes and I get some wierd text mode garbage on the screen. Also, whenever
I try to configure WinJammer, it tells me either that the Ultrasound Midi Synth
is currently being used by another program, probably the Midi Mapper or that
the Midi Mapper is being used by another program. Any ideas on how to correct this?

I have a 486DX-33 system w/4 MB memory, Diamond Stealth VRAM card
w/ 1 meg, 120 Meg IDE hard drive, Opti chipset (but I have not had the problems
reported by others with it and do not have to use the 8-bit DMA channels),
GUS w/ 256k and version 1.21 install disks, but I do have the new windows
driver (don't remember what version but it's the one on epas...etc.
My GUS setup is 220, DMA: 5, Ultra IRQ: 15, MIDI IRQ: 5.

An unrelated (I think) problem I've been having is that whenever I run
X-wing demo with sbos, sometimes the voices will cut out, they just won't say
part of what they're supposed to. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is
annoying. This happens whether I use SBOS 1.21, SBOS 1.22 (non-beta), or
SBOS 1.23beta. Anyone else have this problem?

First of all, very sincere thanks to the technical support that I've received
from very many of you. It has helped greatly, and special thanks to Phat Tran.

I just wanted to ask if it is normal for SBOSDRV to automatically take IRQ 01.
This interrupt name on my machine is keyboard. No matter how my IRQs are set
in the setup program, when I load SBOS, I see it taking up IRQ 1. Is this
normal? Based on comparisons with my friends' machines, I think my machine
has a pretty standard IRQ and base port setup.

Subject: WFS Pro
To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

I am currently using the windows driver in the file GUS0012.zip (or one
of those newer ones on the ftp sites.). I was using the old WFS Pro and it was
fine. But when I upgraded to the new WFS PRO (Ver 2.01) the volume of the play
back is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is very loud am sometimes I can't
hear anything. Also, the Ultrasound driver is very easily crashed during long
voice play back in Windows but the card is doing fine in DOS applications and
games. Moreover, there is a tremendous amount of statics present when I try
to record (using any programs would have the same resulting statics added.)
from line in and mic in. Can someone help me?
Oh, btw, I am using an OPTi EISA but I am also using a 16-bit DMA and
QEMM-386. Since DOS games are working fine, I assume that this is not the
dreaded OPTi chipset problem.......
		Any help would be appreciated.
																Marshall Lai
PS. I am otherwise very satisfied with the performance of this board. I
am patiently waiting for the new patches to arrive.......
