Perhaps you could tell us which options you used after executing soundset.com ?

Also what does your comanche.cfg file contain after configuration ?

I upgraded my GUS to 1 MB with 8 60ns chips. So far, there is no
problem. Everything is fine.

My GUS came with 70ns chips, and I filled it to 1MB using 4 100ns
chips, 1 70ns chip, and 1 80ns chip. (Yeh, I know, weird, but I got
a good deal). Anyway, I've been having no problems at all with this
configuration. The DRAM tester says all's well.
I doubt it matters too much.

To get Links386 to work with SBOS you must do the following:

Boot up with no Expanded memmory Mangagers (eg EMM386) (This is important)
Delete the LINKS386.CFG file from your links386 Directory
use SBOS -x2
type GOLF /S to run links386
Go into sound set-up and choose SoundBlaster

NOTE:You must have version 1.05 or higher for this to work (which you do)
This should work with SBOS v1.20 or 1.22

You should now be able to choose Soundblaster. Many people say you must
disable BACKGROUND sounds or it will lock up the game, but I have not had this
problem myself. You may also want to use IRQ 5 or 7 if free as that is the
normal SoundBlaster IRQ defaults.

If this for some reason does not work. E-mail me and We'll see if we can
figure it out. Good Luck.

Subject: Speaker out -> Line In Question
To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

I'd like to be able to sample output from my stereo on my GUS. The problem
is that my cheap stereo has no Line-Out's. All it has is two sets of
speaker-outs (A & B). Previously (thanks, Francois!), I have been warned
of the dangers of connecting that output (SPEAKER-B) to the GUS's line in.

I am aware of and able to eliminate the feedback problem, but I am concerned
about the difference in output and input levels, etc between the speaker out and
the line in. Would it be enough just to play the stereo out at a very low
volume while recording, or are impedance, etc problems still too big a concern
even then? If it is still a problem, is there any simple (ie: cheap) hardware
solution to fix up this mismatch and make things acceptable for recording?

Thanks,
-Bryon

Concerning speakers, I found a great pair of JBL's at Circuit City. They
go on sale very often for about $49-$59 a pair. They are bookshelf-size
bass-reflex speakers with 1" titanium tweeters and 5 1/4" coated woofers.

They sound great. Especially when you have them hooked to a stereo with
a 12" subwoofer!

I compared them in CC to a pair of Bose 301's. The sound was ten times
clearer, and they were cheaper to boot!

Subject: Starcon 2 mod problem
To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

Hello,

I have used a program I got from wuarchive to extract the mod files from
Star Control 2 (I love the music in it). The problem is that a bunch of
the mods don't quite sound right, or are messed up somewhat. (Especially
ur-quan.mod and the intro, some of my favorite ones). I've tried playing
them in GUSMOD, trakblaster, and modedit, and they don't work right in
any of them.

I saw one post in the ibm.pc.games newsgroup stating that this was due
to some slight irregularity in certain mods which causes many mod players
to mis-play them (including GUSMOD & many others). He said that the
cause was something like this:

The samples are in order: 11112222233333....
and the mod players for some reason interpret this as
sample 1: 11112
sample 2: 22223
sample 3: 33334
or something like that, anyway. This would explain the hissing noises I
get in the ur-quan mod.

But then someone else posted that all the mods from Starcon 2 worked fine
for them using GUSMOD.

So my question is: what's the story? Is the above reasoning BS, or is it
true? Does anyone know how to get all the SC2 mods to play correctly?

Any answers/explanations would be appreciated,

Thanks,
-Bryon

Well, the trend of .MOD's, .MID's, and .669's seems to be techno. I am
sick of this.. I have many files of merely repeated rhythm segments.

Do any of you have any (or know where to get) titles of good Industrial,
Metal, Punk, or Rock music files (mod,669, or mid)?

I would really like to know...

Thanks

I was curious about the reply card I sent in to Gravis quite a long time
ago... I have never heard any kind of acknowledgement that they recieved it.

I have heard much talk about getting the new patch set, the new sbos, the
package offers etc... Shouldn't I have recieved something from them in the
mail about this?

Just a concern...
