There are lot of problems reported about the GUS software V3.59. These
problems are now fixed with the release of a new ULTRINIT.EXE. The file
name is GUS0045.ZIP and it can be found on one of the following FTP

Hi gussers,
For anybody who has problems with Lion King, you just ca`nt fix the
problems with the older version(s).(Demo or beta). I have now a newest
and it works fine.So get your hand on the new version if you want to
hear corrects sounds and music.
Maxsbos with a plain Gus: I heard that for some "chip" raisons you dont
get any sounds with it. (I have a plain Gus and no sound with Maxsbos,
so it`s true, but what`s the raison?(The exact raison.)
Mortal combat ii demo sound probs. I read in the Digest that it not
working. It`s probably true because it is`nt working with my card also.
Let`s hope the final version WILL work.
Request helping: I have problems with those two games Beneath the steel
sky and Aces of the Deep. I do`nt have sound at all. Also have anybody
heard of a new back - patch with Ultima8? I have the one with no sounds
just music. It`s really stupid, when I have the speech disk also and
can`nt heard it. Thanks for any help.
                        Happy Gussing for any Gussers!

Heb je geprobeerd wait states toe te voegen in je CMOS? Of ICLK te
verhogen (grotere deler). Of eventueel zelfs je internal/external
cache uit te schakelen?

I have same problem. I even have tried to test with different patch and
playback DMA sizes, but sooner or later when someone is talking, the talk
stops. After I have quit the game and when I try to exit windows the windows
freezes with "half of closing sound played". Is it possible to get KQ7 work
GOOD with GUS ?

Oh, okay. And while we're at it, let's restrict the ultrinit.exe problem to
private e-mail too. And how about the MAXSBOS discussion too. And why not
blow off the people discussing WARP and WINDOZE too?

This digest was created for discussing problems and discoveries about the
Ultrasound with games, drivers and until the split, music. This started
over two years ago. I've been here since the first issue and I've never
seen anyone as arrogant as you. There happen to be a lot of people having
the NASCAR problem and it's a very puzzling problem at that. Many patches
for games have been released as a result of people discussing and tracking
down problems here in the digest and then forwarding the findings to game
companies.

If you don't like reading about this problem with your 2400 baud modem,
buy a faster modem! Geez, they couldn't get much cheaper these days.....

Subject: parity errors

I know there was a whole bunch of talk about people having parity errors
(not of the off-board variety), but since i had no troubles of this
nature i didn't pay attention. My friend has a gus 2.4 with software
3.59 and is getting these messages everytime he tries to use the card, or
when he runs windows (or it'll just lock up completely). He has a UMC
chipset (82c481b, 82c482af, and 82c206f, dated 9224) in a mother board
with 1 vlb, 6 at, and 1 xt slots, and driving with an intel486DX33,
256kcache, 1024 Oak VGA (16-bit), and 4 megs RAM. He's tried it with the
playmidi, etc.. it works for a short time with SBOS, but eventually the
system locks up on him anyways, regardless of whether emm386 (dos6.20) is
in there or not. Could somebody or everybody please let me know what the
conclusions were as to the source of this problem.
Thanks.

Subject: Wacky Wheels sound hitch

I've got a problem with Apogee's Wacky Wheels. Well two actually.

Firstly, there is no engine sound. All sound and music works 100%
except engine noise, which only works for about a quarter of a second
at the start of each race. I've no idea at all why. The volume
control doesn't make it work either.

Second, when playing with the Gravis Gamepad the car will
occasionally veer off to the left slightly, as if the joystick is not
calibrated. Am I being stupid and missing the calibration part of
the program or is there some other way to adjust it? (Yes, it is set
properly from DOS with Ultrajoy et al)

Thanks for any input,

Mark

Hmmm... from my reading of the situation some people have actually gotten it
to work with the usual "suite" of problems that people get when they mess
with Beta software. I have a suspicion that there is something loaded in
that is conflicting with that Gravis driver (maybe the the TCP/IP stack that
I have loaded in the get and send these messages). The newest beta is even
nice enough to pinpoint the driver that is causing a general protection
fault (only when grvsutil.386 is loaded). But I'll be dammed if I know what
that driver does much less what can be done about it.

Another odd thing is that the Midi support ALMOST works under the included
win95 adlib driver. (sigh...)

John.
