Subject: CD Audio connection

I recently got myself a CDROM drive, Sony CDU-55E I think its called, and
I have a small problem. Everything works fine except the audio CD
connection. I checked the cable and it seems fine. I checked the pinouts
and they both match on the CDROM and GUS (left ground ground right, or
symmetrically reversed). I stick in a plain audio CD, get it playing with
a CD player prog, and nothing comes out of the gus, while the headphone
jack actually works, and I can listen to the CD with my earphones. I
tried all possible switches on ultrinit. I'm totally clueless. My only
possible suspcion is that the CDROM is of the variety that connects
directly to the IDE interface, as opposed to a dedicated board or the GUS.

Any ideas?

Subject: GUS List - advice

Maggie, while I am not the one who caused this to happen to you, I will
offer you a way to make this stop (in case no one has yet), and an
explanation.

To make this stop, you need to send a mail message to:

gus-general-request@mail.orst.edu

In it's "Subject:" put the word: unsubscribe

I would also suggest you put the same in the body of the message.

What has happened is that somehow someone has added you to a mailing list
dedicated to discussing the Gravis Ultrasound (GUS) PC interface card.
(Did you leave your terminal/workstation unattended recently?)

Doing what you have been doing (simply replying to that message) will not
help. The mailing list and the messages are maintained by a mailer program
(a robot, if you will), and the effect of your reply is to send out the whole
digest to everyone on the list, which may make them quite angry.

Subject: GUS with FPS Football Pro 95 & Incredible Machine

I just bought copies of FPS Football Pro 95 & The Even More
Incredible Machine, and I can't seem to get them to work
well with my GUS. The Football game gives me sound effects,
but they are really choppy. Sometimes I hear the last part
of a work before I hear the first part. I really don't care
about the music. The sound effects would be nice, though.

The Even More Incredible Machine seems to only give me music.
Is that right? The documentation on the game is so sparse
that I can't tell if I am supposed to get sound effects.
Again, I would rather disable the music and get sound effects,
if that is possible.

I only have 256k of RAM on my GUS.

Thank you for your help.

P.S. If anyone knows how to disable the copy protection on
these two games, I would sure appreciate knowing how. All
the page turning to find the right answers is driving me crazy.

Subject: MARCATO.PAT???

I don't think the marcato.pat is messed up. I've been in an
orchestra and seen many. The violins are on the left, the voilas and
cellos middle and near right, and the basses are on the right. If the
patch is played the other way, _then_ one will be sitting _in_ the orchestra.
