I am deciding on getting King's Quest VII, but the label doesn't say it
explicitly supports the UltraSound. But then it is a Windows game, so it
should work. But does anyone know if it supports patch caching, or must
I preload a GM set?

Also, for the MAXSBOS program, does it work *only* for the MAX, or does
it work for a regular UltraSound with 1 MB of memory? I thought there's
no significant hardware difference but the recording capability and CD
interface, which I don't think the MAXSBOS program needs. Perhaps,
Gravis just assumed that all regular UltraSound owners still had only
256k RAM, and so said it was for the MAX, with a base 512k RAM, the
amount with which MAXSBOS works.

With Qemm 7.5 it's simple: Use the option "Pentium:VME" which is also good
for 486's

Subject: UltraSound Clicks

I just bought my 2nd Gravis UltraSound and installed it yesterday.
The sound quality is amazing - except for one thing, the clicking.
Sometimes, there is a popping or clicking sound when playing certain
MIDI files (such as MINUETG.MID). It's inconsistent (it happens
sometimes but not always) but it's still annoying. In fact, the
clicking problem is one of the things that prompted me to return
my GUS 2 years ago. Anyway, does anyone know of any possible remedies
to the problem? I have a DX2/66 and I'm hooking the GUS to an external
amp via its Line-Out connector and I've also shielded the GUS from my
other adapter cards with paper wrapped around aluminum foil.

I have a 1 MB GUS - consisting of 2 70ns NEC chips, 4 80ns Goldstar
chips, and 2 70ns Hyundai chips. But SETGUS' diagnosting program
doesn't detect any problems with the RAM or other conflicts. Also,
my ULTRASND variable is set to ULTRASND=220,5,5,11,5.

My motherboard is an SIS471B with 256k writeback cache and among other
things, my CONFIG.SYS/AUTOEXEC.BAT combo includes Drive Rocket, GMOUSE,
NNANSI, UMC VLB IDE Driver, HIMEM.SYS, NCACHE2, SHARE, and DOSKEY.

Any suggestions?

Subject: WC3 crashing

I'm having a problem running WC3 at all with my GUS......I keep getting an
'exception error 0' and the game tells me it is probably a result of a bad
CD read....I cant even get it to start up. I have a SBpro in also and it
works fine when I use it for sound and music. I can't take the SB out
because it controls my CDROM drive.....Anyone else seen this?

Thanks

Subject: Windoze NT and GUS..

Hello everyone out there,

It's my first time posting on this list and I just subscribed to
it so please tell me if my etiquette is not what it would be supposed to.

I just got a GUS Max and I am perfectly happy about it in both
Windows 3.11 and Linux but I have searched the various FTP sites in vain
for a GUS driver for Windows NT. So, here is my question: Is there _any_
way to make a GUS work under Windows NT? (I am using 3.5 but I guess that
3.1 drivers would work too.. ) Is it possible to make it emulate a
SoundBlaster Card and install SB Drivers if there are no GUS drivers (I
guess not, since it needs a software emulator but I thought I'd ask.. ).

Any technical tip that would help me get rid of the beeps of my
PC speaker for something more melodious would be apreciated. :)

Thanks,
