Something that all gussers should check out, it the demo of
Relentless (Little Big Adventure) by Electronic Arts. It uses the 32 bit AIL drivers (v2
not 3) and the sound is FLAWLESS! Clear and well mixed. And the MIDI
music is wonderful..

Check it out.

You can add Descent to the list. (Shareware version available from
wuarchive.wustl.edu in pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS/descent (I think...). It uses
HMI drivers and they work flawlessly in stereo!

System Shock worked great with the GUS when I played it. I also just
wanted to say that after spending a short amount of time getting accustomed
to the environment, System Shock is/was, in my opinion, one of the very best
games I've _ever_ played!

In reply to the person who said Black Thorne (Alias Black Hawk) is good and
System Shock is not to be recommended, I say PIFFLE! (Strong language)

I agree that Black Hawk is quite good but to not recommend System Shock is mad!
System shock has got to be the best 3D game I have EVER come across, it beats
Doom (II) hands down, it's smooth, fast, brain-teasing, active, everything.
What's more, if you don't like an aspect of the game (eg combat) then you can
switch it off or even make other aspects (eg Puzzles) harder. The plot is long
and twisted, and best of all, it has Gus native support seamlessly integrated
into itself, with its own patches for those of you who don't have 1Mb.

Then again, this person might have a personal view of system shock as slow-on-a-
386, memory-hungry, 30megabyte eating monster game...

Has anyone gotten this to work. I have tried megaem and get all kinds of

try SBOS it re-boots my machine and gives me a off-board parity error.

I have a problem with my GUS and Sierra's game Aces of the deep. I can't
get working sounds out of the game, only some kind of noise. Sbos doesn't
help and because it uses protected mode... :( no megaem. It finds my card
but it plays even the test sound poorly! I have tried to change the irq
and dma and the adress (of course, I haven't tested them all...) but
nothing seems to help. Is there a patch or update for that game???

BTW: I have the cd-rom version of the game... if it has anything to do
with it.

on the MAX to improve sound quality. It also makes use of the C54231

but we have tested it with a number software titles and felt the
improvement

Advanced Gravis Financial Results -3rd Quarter
 ---------------------------------------------
December 19, 1994

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TORONTO: AED
VANCOUVER: AED
OTC BBS: GRVSF

					ADVANCED GRAVIS COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY LTD.
THIRD QUARTER OPERATING RESULTS FISCAL 1995

Financial Results
-----------------
Total revenues for the third fiscal quarter ending October 31, 1994,
were
$11,375,880 versus $6,482,102 for the comparable quarter last year, an
increase
of 75%. Net profit for the quarter was $195,085, or 1 cent per share
versus
$45,187 or nil cents per share last year.

Total revenues for the nine months ending October 31, 1994, were
$27,163,891
versus $14,628,503 for the same period last year, an increase of 86%.
The net
loss for the nine-month period was $212,011 or 1 cent per share versus a
net
loss of $681,052 or 5 cents per share last year's comparable quarter.

All the Company's product lines contributed to the quarter's strong
sales
growth. Ultrasound sales increased 48%, and core products sales were up
86%
from the previous year.

Gross margins improved for the third quarter to 28%, up from 25% in both
the
comparable year and this year's fiscal second quarter. This was
primarily due
to a more favorable overall product mix, introduction of new higher
margin
products, and increasing benefits from the Company's offshore
manufacturing
operations.

Total selling and advertising expenses for the third quarter were
$1,479,775
(13%)* versus $738,792 (11%) for the same period last year. The
increased
selling and advertising expenses were primarily associated with the
launch of
new products, increased print advertising, higher costs for increased
software
developer support, and expenses associated with the operation of a
European
sales office. The costs of doing business in Europe in the same period
last
year were accounted for as commission expenses and were included in Cost
of
Goods Sold. Research and development costs were $397,993 (3%) for the
quarter
versus $198,679 (3%) for the same period last year. General and
Administrative
expenses for the third quarter were $646,305 (6%) versus $415,203 (6%)
for the
comparable period last year. General and Administration expenses for the
third
quarter included $103,031 of recruiting and relocation expenses for the
addition of senior executives and a foreign exchange loss of $179,884
versus a
$16,340 gain for the comparable period in the prior year. The foreign
exchange
loss was due to a temporary strengthening of the Canadian versus the
U.S.
dollar.

Just to Let You Know #15
------------------------

Merry Christmas To All
----------------------
Advanced Gravis would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New
Year. We would also like to take this opportunity to say thanks for all
your
support and to let you know that we are committed to improving our
products and
support in 1995. I personally would like to thank the SYSOPs of the
Gravis BBS
NODES, the administrators of the WWW and Internet Gravis sites and to
Dave Debry who has resurrected the Gus Daily Digest.
I will be working on getting our own Internet Server installed here
at
Gravis sometime in spring 95. This will make distribution and updates of
our
software a lot faster and user will also be able to telenet into our
BBS.

Gravis UltraSound OS/2 Drivers - Alpha Version - (OS2_031A.ZIP)
 ---------------------------------------------------------------
For the past two months the request for Ultrasound OS/2 drivers have
been
greater than ever. Our current OS/2 drivers are not 100% completed,
however we
are releasing them to the public as an ALPHA version.
These drivers provide OS/2 multimedia audio support for the Advanced
Gravis
UltraSound line of audio cards. These drivers support simultaneous
playback of
WAVE and MIDI audio streams through the UltraSound card.

Known limitations
-----------------
These drivers are ALPHA drivers and as such are unsupported by Advanced
Gravis. The drivers have the following known limitations, which will
be
 addressed in future releases:

  - 44KHz 16-bit stereo WAVE files may play with crackling and popping
sounds
	on some machines.

  - MIDI patch loading is optimized for cards with at least 512K of GUS
memory. UltraSounds with 256K of memory may experience performance
and
sound problems while playing MIDI files.

  - The driver provides no explicit support for DOS sessions.

Audio Interface Libraries 3.0 (AIL 3.0) Drivers (USAIL310.ZIP)
 ------------------------------------------------------------
AIL 3.0 drivers are not compatible with the AIL 2.x or AIL32
specifications.
These drivers will allow you to patch games that were shipped without
UltraSound
support but use the AIL 3.0 driver specification.
Unlike AIL 2.x and AIL32 no TSR program such as Ultramid or loadpats
is
required to get Ultrasound support. This means UltraSound TSR's such as
SBOS, UltraMID, or Mega-Em should be removed from memory, as they will
conflict with this driver. The AIL 3.0 will, if you wish, allow you to
use
custom patches in a game.
Known games that support AIL 3.0 drivers:

Title Company
 ---------------------------------------------
WarCraft Blizzard Entertainment

Patch For PGA TOUR GOLF 486 (PGA486US.ZIP)
 -----------------------------------------
This driver will allow you to update PGA TOUR GOLF 486 to allow native
UltraSound support. PGA TOUR uses a modified version of the AIL 3.0
drivers
and this patch will replace the SBLASTER.DIG file contained in the
PGA486
directory on your hard drive.

Sound Blaster(TM) Emulation for UltraSound MAX v0.10(Alpha)
(MAXSBOS.ZIP)
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
MAXSBOS is a new improve version of SBOS that will only work on the
UltraSound MAX cards. MAXSBOS makes use of the full 512K or 1024K of
memory

Outlook
--------
The Company's fourth quarter is traditionally its strongest selling
season.
The success earlier in the year of the Microsoft Flight
Simulator/Advanced
Gravis joystick bundle has led to the introduction for the upcoming
quarter and
fiscal year of several new action and sports based software titles
bundled with
joysticks and GamePads from Advanced Gravis. These new bundle programs
have
been structured so as not to negatively impact the Company's average
gross
margins. Broad critical praise for new products combined with
optimistic
industry projections for sales of personal computers for home
entertainment use
hold the promise of continued strong revenue growth and profitability
for
Advanced Gravis.

Subject: More WC3 and GUS

Having mucked around a bit, I am ready to blame the GUS for my troubles.
However, some of you have mailed me saying that it works fine, so maybe I'm
doing something wrong.
GUS is on port 220, DMA 5, and interrupt 11. I've tried other settings,
but they don't change anything. The test sample cuts off after a half second.
In the movies, a skip occurs every few seconds during which the sound cuts out
(with a bit of static) and the video sometimes jumps. In combat, voices are
garbled and SFX are erratic. On the Victory, the background rumble cuts out
every few seconds even if nothing is going on.
This looks like an interrupt problem, but as far as I can tell all
of my settings are fine. What is everyone else using?
Thought it was my Mitsumi at first (using interrupt/non-DMA transfer),
but the movies play fine with sound turned off. I have a 486/33 16M, full HD
install, Stealth 32 VLB. I get a 25 for CPU (replacing it soon) and a 2 for
video.

Subject: Native Games for Gus

Something that all gussers should check out, it the demo of Relentless
(Little Big Adventure) by Electronic Arts. It uses the 32 bit AIL drivers
(v2 not 3) and the sound is FLAWLESS! Clear and well mixed. And the MIDI
music is wonderful..

Check it out.

SS-CD uses AIL 3 drivers, unlike the SS-3.5's HMI drivers. So it doesn't
support the GUS yet (thought a patch is promised). Just thought you might
like to know...

Subject: Transport Tycoon and GUS

Hello
I would just like everyone to know that Transport Tycoon sounds GREAT on
the GUS. It gets a little crazy at the end of one of the songs, but it
resumes as soon as it is done.
But anyway, to get Transport Tycoon to run with the GUS, here is what you
do:
1. Run install program (this is the hard part)
2. Select Ultrasound support
3. run TYCOON

Easy, huh? 8')

Sounds great. Uses your patches, I believe. There is an "ultramid" in
the directory, but I didn't run it, I just went ahead an ran TYCOON, and it
sounds great! Great Midi Music and SFX! Way to go Microprose! (It's
about time!)

Subject: X-COM/UFO patch for GUS

I just read a message on CompuServe from MicroProse about their hit
game, X/COM: Terran Defense (aka UFO: Enemy Unknown, the original name
for the game when it was released in the UK). The game has GUS support,
but only for digitized sound and not for music. The long awaited update
for the game was supposed to be released by Christmas '94, which would
add GUS support plus a lot of other changes. Unfortunately, the patch
is being delayed until January because of problems with GUS support.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.
