I'm able to record perfectly using a CDU33A drive a small utility I found in
EPAS a while ago called readcda or readcd (I don't remember). The GUS you have
makes no difference, since it's not used, you can even take it out your
computer and keep recording WAVs.
I will try downloading it to epas right now, but it must be at some other
archive anymways.

I have a regular gus with 1MB and a Sony CD33A. I got cdinfo to work. It
shouldn't be affected by your soundcard since it isn't even using it. In
fact, I was grabbing sound off of my cd and the dos mixer had my ultrasound set
to line in OFF, so there was no possible interaction (it takes the sound
info through the actual interface that came with the cdrom). A possible
conflict may be the address of your cdrom and the address of your gusmax
conflicting. You could eliminate this problem by remarking out your gus
initializing part of your autoexec and config and then trying to see if
you can get it to work. I'm not sure what drivers I have but if you can't
get it to work then let me know.

Subject: CD ROM INTERFACE

Hi GUS'rs .. Ive just decided to look into attaching a CD-ROM drive to the
GUS, checked the faq and realised there are 3 different CD ROM interfaces
you can buy for 3 different brands of CD ROM drive.

Can anyone mail me info regarding what get? What is the best choice, can
you buy a CDROM interface card that does all three?

Can any of the CD ROM interface card/drive combinations display CD-I? Or are
you limited to just PC compatible CDROM programs?

In short, whats the best way to go about attaching a CDROM drive to my PC,
through the GUS, or get a dedicated daughtercard?

Any mail on this much appreciated!

Ok got the answer from Sierra tech support.. guess we won't be
able to get the Ultrasound support from the game until these HMI
drivers are released.. anyway take a look at what sierra had to say:

This may sound like a shrug off....but it isn't....we use the HMI
drivers provided by a third party..and there were some issues raised
from Gravis about this thrid party company and Dynamix....you may
want to contact Gravis to see what is going on about fixing this
problem. (I know it's our game...but call them and let me know what
how it goes)....This is the best solution at this time....my tech
area states to run SBOS and Soundblaster drivers...and you've already
done that..:)

Subject: GUS -> GUSMAX upgrade

Has anyone here taken advantage of the upgrade offer? I just want to know
if anyone has noticed any difference, good or bad, between the
functionality of the GUSMAX compared to their old GUS (other than the
obvious recording capabilities) ?

I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm not sure if it's worth it. If the cards
function exactly the same and SOUND EXACTLY the same, I don't think it's
worth it to upgrade just to get a new warranty. I doubt I'll ever do any
recording since there are a lot of good samples already out there with
many more coming all the time.

Does anyone think the GUSMAX is any more 'solid' as far as components go?

Anyone have any advice?

BTW, I have one of the ORIGINAL Ultrasounds, like version 1.0 or 2.0 or
something like that.

Any help much appreciated...

Subject: GUS and PEARL-Handscanner problem

Hi,

I'm using a GUS (2.4) and a PEARL-Handscanner and experience problems.
(To be exact: I'm not using both, because they don't work together.)
If both boards are built in in my computer, the scanner works, but the
GUS doesn't. If I remove the scannerboard the GUS works probably.
These are my settings:

GUS : Ad 220H (jumper) IRQ 7/5 (software) DMA 1 (software)
Scanner: Ad 380H (jumper) IRQ 10 (software) DMA 6 (software)

Of course, I have tried several other settings (addresses, IRQs, DMAs),
but none of them worked.
Who can help me? (Hey I'm really down!)

Thanks in advance, Dieter.

I have had reports that the SONY drive does NOT work properly with
READCDA when you use the DMA driver. The polled I/O driver works ok.
I do not think the report was about a Sony and a GUS card (probably a
Sound blaster or small interface board.
I don't know what driver you use with the Gus MAX, but if it uses DMA
then try using Polled I/O (if possible).

Hello there,

The game Master of Orion uses EXACTLY the same sound
engine as Master of Orion (They did not update at all their library of AIL
drivers after one year). So the patch I made for Master of Orion, called
MOO_GUS.ZIP works without problems. You can find it on epas mirrors and
maybe in the submit directory of epas if you can log on.

								Have fun

Just to let you all know. I realize there hasn't been a FAQ revision
since mid-November. I have become quite busy of late, but I promise, yes
absoultely PROMISE I will have a revision out before Christmas. v2.03 is
already under construction, and has a LOT of revisions from 2.02, so it
will be worth the wait :) Take care...

Subject: Q: where to buy

Hi!

Anyone could help me to find a good place to buy GUS (or GUSMax) in the
States? I'm visiting here for a while from Europe.
I checked the GUS FAQ, but most of the vendors have "stucked-to-busy"
800 numbers (I managed to contact one company, they sell the Max for $179).

Thanks in advance,

Subject: Recording problems...

Some people have expressed difficulties recording under Windows. I have had
similar problems while recording under DOS using 'playfile' - it does not seem
to be enabling the Line in or Mic in - I tried it in both.

The problem was solved by clicking on the Line-in / Mic in check boxes in no
particular order - I think 'Mic' becomes enables when 'Line-in' is enabled or
something equally stupid. I don't know why this happens - perhaps because I
have an older GUS with the new software, but who cares anyway because it is such
an amazing sound card.

I'm not sure whether this applies to the previous Window problems, but I hope
this is helpful and do Gravis know why this happens?

My University breaks up for Chrissie now, so I'll take the opportunity to wish
GUS users everywhere a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Stunt island is pretty old, and I've had it around a long time (I bought
it when I was still using a thunderboard, which I no longer have)

Does anybody know how to get Stunt Island to work with gus, emulation or
otherwise? Everything I have tried with sbos and megaem just locks up
the computer. Thanks in advance for any help.
