Subject: CDDA and CDInfo problems

Anybody with GUS MAX and a Sony CDU33A (with 1.73a drivers) have
any luck recording direct from CD to hard disk, using either
da2wav1g (cdda) or cdinfo14? I keep getting general failure
errors and/or mscdex error 000c.

The authors of both claim that the programs work, but I have yet
to be able to grab even a couple of seconds from an audio CD and
dump it direct to a .wav file.

Thx!

Just curious.. my local Fred Meyer has a special on Reveal CD rom drives with
12 CD's for $99. Does the Reveal work with the Gus Max and are they good
cd rom drives.? It seems that all the stores only carry the Reveal, but
yet, no one ever mentions them.

any personal testimonials for the REVEAL would be greatly appreciated! :-)

I am looking into your issues.....I will research and get back to
you...I THINK we may have a fix for that GUS problem....the lockup is
a different story....let me check and get back to you....:)

Subject: GUS and STTNG: A Final Unity

I was at the local Electronics Boutique last night, and saw that there is now
a CDROM demo of Spectrum Holobyte's "Star Trek: The Next Generation: A Final
Unity" (I think that's the right name) which should be available in its final
form early next year. However, the package didn't mention what soundcards are
supported.

Has anyone tried the demo or heard anything about the soundcard support in
the game?

Thanks!

What is this program, is it a program that does what the first person mentioned

What are you using for a memory manager, QEMM, EMM386, Etc. Does the game use
DOS4GW?

Most games that use DOS4GW will not allow MEGAEM to work as DOS4GW switches the
processor into enhanced mode taking control away from MEGAEM. Although some
games seem to work only when using QEMM w/MEGAEM and DOS4GW. I got Mortal
Combat to work this way with the General MIDI Option.

Well personally I think SBOS sucks!

Did you know you can use your thunder board and GUS together? Use the gus as a
general MIDI device and the Thunder Board as a SB DAC.

I4m also running Windows For Workgroups 3.11 but no problem with the
GUS.. I own a regular GUS 1Mb. My current driver version is 5.45
(from the 3.57 disk set) but it has been working with previous version too. I
have a swedish version of windows and don4t know what this is called in your
version but check in the "controlpanel" / "drivers" / "ulrawawe and MIDI synth"
if you have any box where you can disable line in (or mic-in). Drivers previous
to 5.45 had this option but I can4t find it now. Second, try using Ultrasound
mixer to enable line-in (or mic-in). Check that you can hear the sound from
line-in and mic-in on the output from the GUS when you have this enabled in the
mixer. If the sound passes the GUS and your output from prerecorded wav4s work
and you still can4t get the recording to work try running winsetup from the
ultrasound dir again. Still no recording ? , something is really wrong..
In this case I can mail you my SYSTEM.INI.

Happy GUS-ing.

Subject: Recording under Win311

Saw a couple of posts go by re: problems recording under Win311 and
WfWG311. One user couldn't record with the mic, the other person
didn't say which input wasn't working.

First thing I would check is Select Recording Source menu item
on the GUS mixer. Click on the system menu icon, then on
Select Recording Source. The upper-right portion of the mixer
(where the GUS logo was) will turn into a 4-choice option dialog.
Select your input of choice. I used to have a stereo cable from
the headphone jack of my CDU33A CD-ROM to the line input of the
GUS, but quite by accident, I clicked "Mixed" on the Recording
Source dialog and discovered I could record direct from the
CD-ROM audio inputs on the card.

Hope that helps!

Subject: SBOS/Motherboard incompatible :-<

I just found out from GVT that their 486 motherboard does not support GUS
i/o channel check. Therefore SBOS will not work with my 486-GVT board (!!).

Apparently Gravis and GVT are 'aware' of the problem.

Does this mean I'm screwed for soundblaster emulation with my new GUS-MAX?

Can one live on Mega-Em alone??

Any suggestions/experiences would be greatly appreciated ....

For all you who have a SB, a GUS and QEMM 7.0+, Warcraft will work fine with
the GUS using Megaem for General MIDI and SB for DAC. Just a tip for people
who don't want to do all the hacking. Then again if you hack you get native
support.

Has anyone found a way to get this game to work with the GUS,
MegaEm didn't do it (hung on music init), and all the sbos settings hung
my system upon running it.

Thanx for your help in advance.

Well, I got WC3 yesterday (Tuesday) and the GUS sound is FLAWLESS! The
game is so cool! I am using a 486/66 w/8megz /LOCAL BUS VIdeo and 1meg
normal Ultrasound. It rules! WEll, i just have one question, on the box
it has a little mark next to the soundcards that have 16bit digital
playback, the GUS max has a notch by it, but not the Normal Ultrasound!
ISn't the ultrasound capable of playing 16bit sound back? whats up?

BTW, get this game. Nuff said.
