I don't really see the problem. I have an Adaptec 1542 and have just
restrapped the i/o address to 334H (if I can remember correctly). Now
everything works fine: Megaem without any extra flags, SBOS, the lot.

Subject: Configuring GUS in Linux

I'm about to reconfigure my kernel to take advantage of my new
GUS but I'm not sure of how to answer some of the prompts (i.e. is it
desireable or required to emulate other cards at times?). Assuming I use
the default DMA, IRQ, etc. (should I?) could someone help fill in some of
the blanks: (my guesses in parenthesis)

1) ...full version of driver? (n)__
2) ...DISABLE the sound driver? (n)__
3) Enable PAS or AdLib? _________________
(I know the SB shouldn't be enabled with the GUS at 0x220 so should I put
the GUS elswhere and enable SB?)
4) SB Pro support? _____
5) SB 16 support? _____
6) digitized voice support? _____
7) MIDI interface support? (y)__
(is this strictly for external devices or for MIDI software too?)
8) FM synth. support? (y)__

I guess that's it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use SBOS. There isn't a lot of music in Flashback anyway. MegaEm sometimes
forgets to stop playing notes. SBOS doesn't, and the small amount of music
there is, doesn't sound any better or worse with SBOS. Digital FX are the
same with both.

Naturally, you set up FB for a Sound Blaster when using SBOS.

dune2ail.zip, archive.epas.utoronto.ca under pub/pc/ultrasound, and follow the
directions.

Subject: GUS / OS2 warp....

Greetings all,

I wanted to ask people out there using OS/2 WARP, how well does the gus/games/
mod players work with it? I've got a dos machine, but am thinking of getting
warp (I have a 386-40 with 4mb ram) I keep hearing probs with OS/2 drivers for
gus, but are they for the OS/2 native, and the dos emulator works fine, or is
it that the GUS'es are having probs through out the software? ps how well
does it work with Iplay. I've been noticing that I mostely use my machine for
NetSurfing/Playing music/Wordprocess/ and one or two quick action games.
Should I stick with DOS? Thanks....

What the hell is going on? All this bouncing back and forth of the old
digest is driving me nuts! 8copies of digest16 was not amusing! Is the
above the problem? I've seen that message a few times in previous digests...

If I were I cynic, (and I am) I'd suspect someone was trying to mail-bomb
everyone on the digest... Disgruntled AWE owner maybe? ;)

I just wondered if anyone has had any trouble when recording in 8 bit using
the GUS ? When I record silence the information that is recorded has got
some form of DC offset error (ie I get +DC volts for silence!!)

Is there anyway I can change the DC offset level on the GUS card ??

Gee. My GUS MAX is very nice. However, I do enjoy keeping my software
up-to-date. But unfortunatly, I don't have FTP access, and would like to
know how I could get the stuff I want.

Building on what I said earlier, is there any patches for Warcraft
circulating around? I know that in 3 weeks the real patch is out (how can
I get it without FTP?), but want to know if there are any I could try now.

Does anyone have advice on how to get satisfactory sound out of Indycar?

After 2 years of putting up with BAD emulation, I thought things were
starting to turn around, now I'm not so sure. I'm getting really tired

Then again, aren't we all....

Sorry, I'm just really pissed at this particular moment...

Request for advice still stands re:Indycar

I don't like that idea because it makes it more difficult to reply. To
generate this, I just hit the 'r' key, deleted the parts I didn't need (that
is what the bozos^H^H^H^H^Hpeople who resubmit the whole digest need to do),
and typed this in. Quite simple, really.

Has anyone gotten Midas for windows to work correctly for them? I'm running
a 1meg rev.3.4 GUS w/WFWG3.11 and Qemm7.5, and when I exit windows, or try to,
it hangs, and the exit sound gets played in sloooooow motion, then some
mod that I'd tried to load earlier, also in sloooooow motion.

When I tried to load a mod, it says that there's an error with initializing
the MCI device or something like that, and suggests that I restart Windows,
but is locks ond goes funky on me.

Hi, it is now December and still no word on the protected Mega-EM,
and more important, the OS/2 drivers. Let me guess, the OS/2 drivers
will be out "REAL SOON NOW (TM)" right?

Can someone at Gravis post an OFFICIAL statement regarding the
state (or none state) of the OS/2 drivers so that I can quit waiting and
hoping? If there is no drivers, fine, say it and I'll dump my GUS in a
flash and get a card that is supported.

I will *NOT* let a card dictate my operating system. I know, I
know, there are the Manley drivers but I want MIDI in PM.

Thanks. I already have the Sierra 32-bit sound and MIDI patch for the GUS,

very buggy, as I can only get by certain areas of the game with the

Hi, I got a good friend who bought himself a GUS MAX. I didn't send in my
reg. card yet, but he sent his to Gravis in the Netherlands. After 1.5 month
he still didn't receive anything from Gravis. What's wrong here ? We're
getting pretty annoyed by the bad Long Distance support. We tried to reach
Gravis over the normal voice phone via an AT&T collect call, but AT&T doesn't
connect to Canada :-/. So we pulled ourselves together and tried via MCI. No
result.

I hope anyone can help us with this little problem. I know enough people who
lost their registration chance like this. Why does Gravis does not put up an
internet server for Digital Registration ?

Jean-Pierre.
