It doesn't patch cache since it uses UltraMID to process the MIDI commands.
Some might call this an ugly hack, but I call it an interesting marriage of
technologies :). You don't have to explicityly load any patches before
running a game, just UltraMID. This also allows you to load the MT32 patch
set by specifying a different INI file. Yes it is a one-time registration
and will include all future upgrades if deliverable by e-mail. OS/2 MIDI
support most likely will not be implemented in these drivers since Gravis'
should address this. I do intend on keeping my VDD compatible with the
standard PDD interface which I HOPE they've followed!

Subject: Gravis Ultrasound and Tie Fighter

I've also had problems with this game. I've noticed a couple of minor
glitches in the sound when a sequence (eg, when the Tie is 'dropped'
from a star destroyer) is played. This is nothing to worry about. The
main trouble I get is the control 'jumping' when my joystick is
connected.
There is a fault with the megaem software, as I get no trouble with
the joystick when I select 'no sound' before startup and do not have
megaem loaded before starting the game. Is there a solution to this
problem?
At the moment I'm playing the game with my infra-red mouse,
which is giving me no end of trouble; but this is better than the
unpredictable movements (slight 'shifts' in the control) I get when I
have my Gravis Analog joystick connected.

BTW. There is nothing wrong with the joystick. I had it checked by
Gravis a couple of months ago.

It's a pity Lucasarts didn't give you the option to choose the type
of controller in this game. If you have the joystick connected, the
game will automatically choose the joystick, so I have to disconnect
it.

Anyway all help will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: GUS and MIDI keyboard

Hi all, I have a GUS 3.7 and the original Gravis MIDI box, together with a
Yamaha PSR310 electronic keyboard. My problem is that, when the keyboard is ON,
I can hear a hiss in the speakers. Someone from Gravis suggested that this
problem can occur if the keyboard is sending MIDI OFF messages all the time,
which might be true as the corresponding LED blinks even if no key is
pressed---however, there's nothing mentioned in the keyboard's manual.

My question is, is there a way to supress this annoying noise?

Thank you in advance,
Dragos

Well, I have a single speed, 4 Megs of RAM and it worked fine...
with the the 32 bit drivers from sierra, that I got from garbo. I didn't
use smartdrv because I only had 4 Megs of RAM. The speech is great.

And I found a way around the skipping of sound in windows with the old
drivers(the ones that came with the install disk). Problem : I got
skipping sounds like 'ta-aa-ada-da' instead of 'tada'. Same when I
played the "making of GKCD". Solution : I set the DMA #A's buffers to
512(the lowest amount)... and... 'tada' no skipping!

Subject: GUS MAX and AIL drivers

Hello, I have some questions concerning the AIL drivers and GUS MAX.

Firstly, is there any way to control the digital sound volume? ULTRAMID
lets you adjust only the midi volume. And all games with their own volume
control do the same thing. Could this be so because GUS MAX has different
mixer chip than plain GUS?

Secondly, am I imagining or do the (at least some of) sampled sounds come out
distorted? It seems to happen most often with loud samples so maybe this
happens because the volume is always set at the maximum.

Hello everyone, I am having problems with KQ6 and my GUS. I have KQ6 on
CD-ROM and am trying to install the windows version. I had it successfully
installed with my SB, but since I upgraded to a GUS (256k ram) I can't play
it. I start the game, and there is no music, and very few sound effects. The
speach is choppy and I get a divide error VERY early in the game (EG. Second
Screen). Can someone PLEASE tell me how to correct this problem. Thanks in

Hi..

Ok LucasArts Has Put in Gravis Support, So We should be thankfull for that, BUT
when you put in a SoundCard Support You have to make sure that it works,Sounds
properly, And That is something they didn't do... (But it was their First
attempt on supporting the GUS)..

To Enjoy Rebel Assault, You have to use SBOSE (what the F**k do you mean Sound
F***ing Blaster Emulation, I hear You think).. Well, This Should Fix every
thing, Rebel Assault Runs Even Faster, And The Sound Should Be better...

Happy Gussing, And keep buying those STAR WARS games, because STAR WARS and
LucasArts are the BEST...

And I hope To See/Hear Some Cool Things out of my NATIVE GRAVIS when

Hope to see a little Roland MT-32/LAPC-I patch with the New Data Disks and
Maybe a NATIVE GRAVIS Driver...

that is the question ... i was thinking of upgrading to the MAX
with the special offer gravis is offering but i don't know if it's worth
it. i've been offered $180CAN for my old GUS w/1meg which i purchased
for $215 total in jan/feb of this yr. gravis offers the MAX with 1meg for
$229 plus $7s&h and 7%tax ... total $252.52CAN.

Now what i can see is, the only difference the MAX has that the
GUS doesn't are the following ... multi-cd interface, 16bit recording and
adpcm compression. i don't have a cd-rom (not yet at least) so that
doesn't factor in ... so i'm looking at the 16bit recording. i don't
plan to do too much since recording at CD quality can take a BIG toll on
hrd drv space. unless of course the adpcm files can be read and written to
directly. i have a sample adpcm file that's about 1.8megs ... i had to
decompress it to a 5+meg snd file to play through the GUS. Can the MAX
read and right adpcm files directly?

so besides that ... is there any other things that would make the upgrade to
the MAX more attractive??? how about any rumours about gravis maybe
releasing a local bus version with a greater than 1meg expandable ram
size [using normals simms would be good also :)].

When I ordered the Ultrasound Experience CD on the phone the guy
I talked to said it came with version 3.57 of the gus software.
When I received the CD I found it had version 3.53. Does anyone
have the Ultrasound Experience CD with gus update greater than 3.53?
(I don't think version 3.57 exists, he probably made a mistake with
the version number but he did say it was the most up to date version)

I experienced the same problem with my Plextor 4X. Finally got it to work by
first opening my CD-AUDIO application I received with Corel SCSI, Clicking on
Play, minimizing it and then starting the ultrasound experience demo. Don't
know why this works, but it did for me.
