I hope this hasn't been asked before but I'v just started reading the digest.
I have a GUS now with one meg on it but I am thinking of getting the MAX.
Now what are the differences between the two?? They seem pretty alike on
the spec sheet (except for the 16-bit recording). It says the MAX has
3-D sound but so does the GUS if you have 1 meg. ALso this 3d sound on
the MAX..wouldn't it be only for games that support 3d sound (none that I
know of). Thanks for any info you have.

Pete.

Long live GUS (expecially since I'v got some of their stocks hehehe.)

Has anyone successfully installed an internal 2X CDROM drive with thier GUS?
I am also going to get a controller card with it, so I don't have to worry
about using my GUS as one, but will I have many problems installing it to
play the digital sound through my gus? Could someone list me the things I
need to successfully complete my task? Thank you!

Subject: GUS 3.56 disk set

1) Does anyone know exactly what is contained in the Bonus disk set
referred to at the end of installing the GUS 3.56 disks?

2) Also, any idea why this set doesn't include the Recording Session or
Howling Dog programs? Did adding the Dust 3D demo and
Patch Maker really use enough disk space to bump these
off the disk set? OR... are these programs contained on the
'bonus disks'?

3) I didn't bother to compare the patches either... are they the same,
improved, are there more or less of them?

4) What is the consensus on how much buffer space to allocate.
Is the default of 4096 OK?

5) How to get rid of the chirping that follows about 15% of
digital playback files?

Speaking of the Ziff-Davis Media Machine (Jim Seymour's review), Computer Life
(another Ziff Davis product) gave the Gus Max/Midi keyboard/piano tutoring
software a thumbs up in this Month's issue.
Also, can anyone kindly mail me (private) and let me know how to use IRC to
use the #GUS topic? Thanks.

Subject: KLFs

On Drive space on EPAS- It seems as if a lot of the submit directory is taken
up by music such as KLF. Uploading music is fine but when you are advertising
that it's your 90th release of the year, maybe you'd better look at the
quality/quantity ratio of your releases folks. I've seen a lot of people
clamouring for the propats release 3 and utilities but not many have been
moaning about having to wait for the next bit of techno-Muzak.
I'm not saying to get rid of all of the new tunes that come in, just asking
that the uploaders use a little bit of the gelatinous mass in their heads
and Think! before uploading. Thanks.

Subject: propats3 is now available by anonymous ftp

Ok, i'm convinced that enough people want to get propats 3, and i've
convinced the computer services here that this is the case. My computer
has over-run with ftp requests yesterday and today (poor little pc).

I've placed propats3 disks 1-19 and will be putting the recent gus disks
and maybe a few other goodies that i've found helpful (sorry, i'm a
windows user) into a gus directory on ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca reachable by
anonymous ftp.

Site: ftp.cc.umanitoba.ca
directory: pub/gus/
files: pp3-1.zip thru pp3.19.zip, and gus356a.zip thru gus356f.zip (to
come later)

login anonymous, and send e-mail address as password.

This is not a permanent location and may disappear in a few weeks, but you
should all have access to it for at least a month or so...

enjoy!

also, could someone pls e-mail me an attatchment of piano2???.zip (windows
keyboard driver to use the 101 keyboard as a midi input device). Thanks.

well..that's long distance, so why don't we try and find an address to
mail a check to, or maybe an email address?

Here's a deal! Called Gravis (above number) and they will send you the cd-rom
free of charge! Don't know how long this will last so better act fast.

hey, I got the under a killing moon demo cd, and have had no lookups.
If you read the readme file on the cd-rom it says (somewhere) that they
were not able to get the GUD MIDI driver in time for the demo, but it
would be in for the final product. Just get digital and no midi on the
demo.

Do you know if/think that it will come with it will come with a PATCHES.INI
optimized for the game? I remember the U8 patch and the Sierra 32-bit patches
came with PATCHES.INI optimized for those games. I hope to see that the game
companies bear that in mind when supporting the GUS through HMI drivers.

first of all this is my first post to the "post" so please be patient with
me and please repy via e-mail.
ok now that thats out of the way. when i boot up win for workgroups it
crashes unless i boot something with sound first. usually i just load sbos
and then unload it. i tried putting that in my autoexec but it didn't work i
have to do it b hand then win works fine. but it locks up at startup if i
don't anyone know why?
also i have the midi hookup for the gus max and a midi drum machiene and i
was wondering if anyone knew how i could play through my machine and have it
use sounds in the gus to play through my gus outputs. if you have any ideas
please let me know thanks in advance.

Subject: Windows NT GUS Drivers?

I don't use NT or pretend to know much about it, but a friend here tells
me that NT can't use any DOS or Windows 3.1 drivers and thus the GUS
(along with some other devices) can't be used with NT. I would like to
know if this is actually the case, and if so, does Gravis have plans to
release an NT driver? Thanks in advance...
