Hi Gussers,

anyone knows this adress?
I am one of those who sent a registration card to Logitech
Switzerland and have never heard a word from Gravis, so I guess
I'll try registering myself at Gravis Holland.

thanx in advance,

Martinus.

Hi there folks...

Was wondering if anyone had any problems with this game?

I got the CD-DEMO of this incredible looking game and ran into a small
problem.

During the setup it allows me to pick a DIGITAL sound board.
I pick GUS. (it even supports GUS-Max BTW)

Then its time to pick a MIDI device, and things go bad...

no GUS listing.

The only thing that works is "Soundblaster....." :-(

It does seem to work, but I guess its not optimal...

Anyone have similar experiences?

Thanks,

	MikeE

Hi! I'm having difficulty installing the 3.56 software I got
from the gravis bbs. The problem is something about a swapfile. I've
installed using just install.exe (where it will fail with a critical error
when I tell it to setup for windows) and 'install.exe SwapDir=d:\temp'.
I've tried all combinations but none have worked ... even a clean boot.
What boggles me is that I gave it a path that was correct ... even
told it to try to make the swapfile in the main directory of a 100 meg
empty partition (already formatted) but still didn't work!! It stops
with this message:

Subject: conversion of PC sound file format to Mac file format

Hiya peoples,
Does anyone know of a utility off hand that can convert PC sound file format
to Mac sound file formats? Specifically, I have a Gravis Ultrasound sound
card that can record sounds in a .snd format, but I have to import them to
MacroMind Director 4.0 AIFF (Audio Information File Format?). Anyone aware
of such a beast? I can convert my .snd files to .voc and .wav files if
necessary before the Mac conversion. Also, how would such a utility work?
Would I have to perform the conversion on a Unix machine then FTP the Mac
file to a Mac, or is there something that'll change the DOS FAT disk format
and do the necessary file conversion also, so I end up with a Mac diskette?
Thanks for the info!
-Nemo.

P.S. Does SoundEdit for the Mac have such a feature?

There are programs to read raw digital audio from a cd, like cdinfo13.zip
(on epas in util/dos). The saved sample is usually in .wav format. You can
then use convert13.zip (on epas in submit) to convert it into a .PAT file.
If you want to do any processing on the sample in between, you can for
instance use gldwav21.zip (on ftp.cica.indiana.edu in /pub/win3/sounds).

I am considering buying a CD-ROM drive sometime in the future. My
question is, do I need to hook it up to the gus? I have an original GUS,
and my Computer has a few extra slots so if I use the controller card
that my future CD-ROM will come with, will I need to worry about any
incompatablilities what so-ever, besides the basic card interferences? I
am looking into a TEAC 4x, w/controller. I honestly couldn't care less to
hook it up to my GUS or not. As long as it does its job.

I would really doubt the drivers would be in the next release of OS/Warp
considering that Gravis hasn't finished the drivers yet... :)

BTW, the release of OS/Warp has been delayed because they still haven't
been able to find the bug that causes it to crash on some systems for
no apparent reason when installing...

Well, Dave and Ignatius Tam, I already removed it before the
digest was sent out yesterday after tracking down that it was
stern@mail.loc.gov but then I still don't know how that bounce got on the
digest. Perhaps, we should be switching to Majordomo instead to make
things easier since it has a Sender: line which is what makes things not
bounce, it's not the Reply-To: header after all.

	Anyways, Happy GUSing and PEACE!

Does this mean that those who sent an e-mail to register their GUS (again)
are put in your database or not? Or do you want us to send a postcard with
the info (serial nr. of the GUS plus our address) on it? If you

Would you be so kind as to tell how we have to register?

Subject: MIDI Keyboard setups

- From: jpdgreve@vub.ac.be (De Greve Jean-Pierre)

-Hi... I got a little question .
-Some weeks ago I ordered a GUS MAX with 1024K onboard, and now I plan to order
-a MIDI keyboard controller, the Roland AX1 or A30, both keyboards which only
-send midi comands, they don't have instruments or speakers onboard, so they have
-to be connected to another MIDI device which outputs sound. Now, if I buy a gravis midi
-adaptor for my MAX card, and buy the AX1 which has only a MIDI out port (and is GS
-compa tible), to which port should I connect my midi cable on the adaptor to make
-the gus instruments
-sound when I play a tune in Midisoft studio for windows ?
-does there need to be anything changed or switched on ?

I'm not familiar with the keyboards you mention, but I also have a 1 meg MAX,
and chose to buy a Roland PC-200 keyboard, which is also a basic controller
with no on-board instruments. I went from the MIDI out of the keyboard to the
IN port of the Gravis MIDI adaptor, slapped the adaptor onto the GUS itself,
piped the output through my Soundblaster (for easier volume control) and all
is well.
Regarding Studio for Windows: I am also running that, and am basically happy
with it, except for one thing: The track that I am recording at any particular
time (ie the instrument that I want to hear when I hit the keyboard) needs to
be set at MIDI channel 1. This means that I have to keep adjusting my MIDI
channel as I overlay tracks, so that the current track stays at 1. Midisoft
claims it concerns hardware restrictions of the GUS, and Gravis figures it
concerns the Studio software. If you, in your musical ventures, find that this
is not the case, I'd love to hear hints as to getting by this little
inconvenience.

BTW: Attn All Readers Who Have ProPats 3.0: Please have a big heart and tell
the subscribership where you found them, as I have Archied my little buns off
and keep coming up dry. Thanks!

Cheers.

For some reason Mortal Kombat/SBOS won't work with all of the IRQ
settings. I figured out that it works well with:

ULTRASND=220,5,5,5,7

and SBOS.

(won't work with MEGAEM because of protected mode.. they say)

Subject: patch caching

Hi,
I have a few questions about patch caching: with Megaem, what we are getting
is 8 bit GM. What about those games that support GUS via standard drivers
(AIL etc.) Are we getting the benefit of patch caching ? Or is everything
still loaded at once at 8 bits ? If the instruments are loaded at 16 bits, how
does the game (driver) manage to cram all the required instruments into 1
meg ? Is it because only a few instruments need to be loaded (not the
entire GM set) and thus 1 M is enough ? If so, isn't this a restriction for
musicians who wan't to use more instruments or users who want to employ
better/longer patches ? If patch caching is not employed, what happens
when the game/driver runs out of memory (on the GUS) ?
Thanks.

They are called pp3-01.zip through pp3-19.zip

would probably move to:
