Thanks, Vince! What a pleasant surprise, to find the digest waiting
in my mail. Just last week I was wondering if it would ever return.
Although the announce arrived as Volume 0 #0, I hope we'll again
pick up numbering the volume & issues as before. The last one
I received was V14 #12 back in June.

Hi All you Gusers,

I don't really have much to say except that I have to highly
recomend Tie Fighter with the GUS. It comes with a special version
of Megaem and Emuset and it sounds incredible. My friend with a
lowly SB comes over all the time because the game is so much more
playable with my sound card than with his. I love hearing him
complain, now if I can only make him buy a GUS.

Vince, thanks for running the digest I've missed it. Take care
all and keep on Gussin

I'm fairly new to Linux, I've had it about 2 weeks, and after some
trouble finally got the GUS to work about 5 days ago. So far all I
have is GMOD. What other software should I consider installing.
How do I play 16 bit, 44.1 WAVs in Linux? So far only 8 bit 22
kHz seems to work.
Last question, how does GMOD compare to DOS module players?

Glad GUS Daily Digest is back! ^_^

When will the new Mega-Em which will solve the NMI problem be released?
Also, when will the OS/2 driver be released?

Hello everybody. What a shock to find the digests coming in again-I had not
realized how much I had been missing them. Yesssssssssssss!!!!!!!

I thought I would submit a question just to get things rolling:

I am using the latest windows drivers from gus0043.zip on EPAS, and have
noticed that ever since I installed them, I hear this annoying 'chirp' when
software accesses the card. Now that I am thinking about it, I don't recall
hearing this when playing MIDI files, only when playing digital samples from
either the hard drive or from CD-ROM (usually along with video clips, eg.
Quicktime or Video for windows, but also using media player). The sound
occurs at the beginning of the clip, and again at the end when the player is
relinquishing control of the GUS.
This was never heard with any drivers before this version.
Anyone else experiencing this phenomenon? Can it be eliminated?

Some info: I have an original GUS, purchased sometime in 1993, with 1meg
RAM on board.
It's running in a 80486, 33mHz noname clone with 8 megs of RAM, Windows for
Workgroups, Norton Desktop for Windows 3.0, Stacker 4.0, with a cheap
Philips single-speed CD-ROM Drive. Oh, and Qemm 7.04.

Thanks,
Terry

Hooray! The Digest has returned! I'm SO happy!

Now I have somewhere to ask questions again =]

1)Has anyone gotten XCOM:UFO Defense to work with the GUS? The Microprose rep
who responded to my query said a patch would be available soon, but I haven't
seen it. Is it out yet?

2)Just before the digest vanished, there had been talk of a new version of
Mega-Em (great program by the way Jayeson) coming out soon that would work with
protected mode games. Is this out? Almost done? Or just a wild rumor in the
first place?

I have heard many conflicting stories about how to make doom v1.666
work with the GUS. Some say it works fine, others don't (mine sounds like
s***!!). What is the general consensus? Are there any sure-fire fixes (for
the intermitent-soundfx problem)????

Argh! I need some help setting up Linux to use my Gus! I got the
Slackware 1.2, and during the installation, it did ask a question about
the Gus, but that was it. I need to know how to setup the rest. Or if I
should get more drivers.

AND WOULD ID FIX THE FUCKING SOUND PROBLEMS WITH DOOM ONCE AND FOR ALL!??!??

Good to see the digest back up & running. I was beginning to wonder
if the GUS was losing its oomph...

Anyways, does anybody know if Gravis will *ever* release the damn
OS/2 device drivers? (times a tickin....)

Regards,
