Subject: ATTN: Gravis Tech Support

Well, I tried to mail this to the Gravis Tech support, but my mail keep
getting returned because the mailer couldn't find the address.
Anyway, if any of you can get this to Gravis Tech, please forward this
message. Thank you.

I wanted to know how Gravis got SimCity 2000 to work with the 32bit
AIL. I don't seem to be able to get it to work. I have one meg. on
board RAM and I followed all the instruction. The problem is that I
am getting garbage and random sound samples. This happens whenever a
digitized sound is first played. The music plays fine until the first
digitized sound appear. If I turn the SFX off, then the music works
okay all the way. I have tried using a different IRQ other then 7 as
suggested by others on the digest, but it doesn't seem to help. I'd
like to know what is the proper settings that I need to set in order
to get the sound working. Is there any fix for this?

Well, I don't have an answer to the question, but I, too, bought my Ultrasound
from Electronic Arts Direct, for cheap cheap (with an additional $10 discount
because I also ordered PowerMonger--cool game!). I just thought it was neat
to read about someone else actually having bought the Ultrasound through
EA Direct like me. (The best price I've seen since then--back in September
1992, when I first heard about the mighty GUS.) Just thought I'd remark...

I'm at college too, but I won't consider selling my Ultrasound in hopes of
getting a later version, because ten to one, I won't get as great a deal with
the newer version. I mean, a $115 discount from a regularly priced GUS
of $199 is pretty darn good!

Does anyone have a GUS that they want to sell? My friend is a convert to
the terrific GUS sounds and _compatibility_ !! You can email me privately

Subject: GUS now in Flight Simulator 5(a)

I tested the latest patch to Flight Simulator 5 out with the GUS last night.
This is the FS50a.zip patch found at ftp.iup.edu (it's 1.4 Mb). I unzipped
it into a temp dir on C: and ran it, chose the fltsim5 dir on D: and turned
it loose. Took less than 2 minutes. I then ran SETUP in the fltsim5 dir (as
suggested). Somehow the setup program detected the GUS! I was told to use
SBOS (or Megaem, but this is the ONLY mention of that software.) So I used
the latest version of SBOS. I also set the use XMS switch and chose
digitized sound in FS5. (SBOS is running without any switches.) When run,
FS5a was great. There are many improvements, including graphics, frame rate,
cloud generation, SOUND CARD SUPPORT, etc. This is what FS5 should have
been. The GUS had NO PROBLEMS! The sound was continuous (NO gaps), and
every sound was present (landing gear, flaps, landing markers, crashes).
While flying over Chicago in the dark I turned the plane over to the
Instructor for a landing at Meigs. He(she) ran smack into the Sears Tower
(about floor 50) as I watched in amazement. As we lay in a heap at floor 1
the instructor said: Your plane. Oh well...maybe the instructor will get AI
in FS5b.

Subject: MTM players

In my experiance the Inertia Player is the best MTM player I have found.
All MTMs play just as they should. You get some nice graphics of the
waveforms for each channel and a FFT spectrum analyser and other stuff.
The only problem with it is with my 2.4 card and the problem I have with
ultrinit v2.18, I have to run gusmod first or face a complete reboot. I
shall be going back to my old ultinit shortly. Why do gravis update
ultrinit anyway? Surely it's job is simply to initialise the card, no
updating necessary.

it was? Native mode or SBOS or Mega-em??
Thanks in advance!

Subject: Signed to unsigned? Doom?

I want to convert some old amiga samples to use with my gus, but obviously they are signed. Any way to convert them to unsigned?
Also when playing Doom I sometimes get slowdowns in the music. I have a dx2-66 and a 1meg gus on 220,1,1,7,5. Should I change dma or irq?

This probrably doesn't have anything to do with the GUS but I remember a

really out or did you mean Ultima VII because I haven't found Ultima VIII
in any stores yet... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Subject: Where is gus0038?

I've just downloaded gus0039-gus0041. 0040 indicates that it is a patch
for 003 (and I think I saw it mentioned on the list as well). However, I
can't seem to find gus0038 anywhere?! Does anyone know where it is?
Also, gus0041[a,b] looks pretty hefty, but the readme is exceedingly
cryptic. What does it do?

Sorry if this has been brought up recently. My mail service is somewhat
spotty.

Subject: Where to get PUPDATE??

Phat has pointed out to me that the likely reason the new Playmidi is
silent when playing MIDs with custom patches, is that pupdate.exe needs to
be run on the custom patches. But I don't have pupdate.exe, and can't
seem to find it anywhere. Could some kind soul point me to the right
GUS????.ZIP, or even better, upload pupdate.exe to netcom.com:/pub/mikebat
where I can pick it up. TIA.

Hello.
Please help! I love NHL hockey, but unfortunately I can't run it with megeam
If I load megeam (v.2.02?), I usually can't even get past the opening screen.
It will ask me to calibrate my joystick, but then my computer locks up, and
my GUS will start cycling through all its sounds! I have a 386/40 w/4 megs and
a GUS w/1 meg. I'm using QEMM, because EMM causes an error after 1 period.
The game works great when I don't use any sound or when I use MT-32(with megeam
), but I want to hear the digital sounds. Sometimes, when I goto setup and
choose soundblaster, just before loading hockey, it will let me into the game,
but then it will crash at random...and usually start cycling through the
patches.

Please...someone help me enjoy my favorite game even more!
