To whoever talked about the FTP site (epas.utoronto.ca) with the GUS
Digest back issues and requests, I tried uploading my second collection of
midi files (my first is 'three-midi' available from request) but I got a
permission denied. Is it possible to put my second set available to other
GUS enthusiasts?

I'm about to send it on wuarchive under the name MIDIS.ARJ and I already
posted it on Usenet.

Ok, since no one seems to want to do a FAQ, I thought I'd take
a stab at it in my free time (ha ha). Besides all the standard stuff,
I thought I'd make a list of the most popular PD programs out there.
Which ever programs do the best will go on the FTP site.

So, if you can answer any of these questions, please send me
your replies. Don't send them to the list. (Yes, I am a bandwidth
conservation freak.)

Rule #1: You can just give a simple answer if you want, but if
you have any details to add, please do.

Rule #2: If you suggest a piece of software, you HAVE to say
where to get it from. I'm not going to spend a lot of time chasing
down programs. Nyeah nyeah nyeah.

Rule #3: Make sure to say if the program works (well) with the
Ultrasound. If it's a great piece of software, and we can't use it,
maybe we can all put some pressure on the author. (It has to at least
work on IBM compats under MS-DOS, though.)

	Here's the questions:

What's the best public domain/freeware program for:

1] ...sampling? (This includes creating the sample, editing
the sample, applying effects, merging samples, etc., etc.)

2] ...converting between different sample formats?

	3] ...*playing* .MOD files?

4] ...*creating* and *editing* .MOD files?

5] ...composition *without* samples? (IE: Only using
synthesized voices.)

	6] ...composition *with* samples?

7] ...playing the MIDI files that have been sent out on the
digest?

8] ...creating and editing the MIDI files that have been sent
out on the digest?

	Thanks for your input!

What *is* the lowest price quoted for a GUS and where? I have ordered
one from Gravis directly and it's for US$179.00 plus S/H. If there is
another place where I can get it for cheaper, please let me know. I
will then cancel my order with Gravis right away! I will need to get
a midi connector box anyway, so I would like to get the GUS for the
lowest price possible. With Gravis, I still have to wait "2 to 3
weeks" anyway before I get the card. So please let me know where I
can order a GUS for a price much lower than US$179.00.

Subject: MODEDIT 3.0 now available
Summary: MODEDIT 3.0 is here
To: Ultrasound Daily Digest <ultrasound@dsd.es.com>

ModEdit 3.0 is completed. It is currently available on:

ftp.uu.net: /tmp/moded300.lzh
saffron.inset.com: /pub/incoming/moded300.lzh
ftp.brad.ac.uk: /incoming/moded300.lzh

I will upload to more permanent sites (such as SIMTEL) as soon as possible.

ModEdit 3.0 is a shareware Amiga MOD file editor for the IBM PC family of
computers, supporting all video cards and many output devices (including
the PC speaker). MOD files, for those who don't know, are 4 channel
digitized music files.

ModEdit 3.0's features include:

o Easy, intuitive piano-roll entry of notes
   o Mouse support
   o Dropdown menu interface
o Sound output to PC speaker, Soundblaster, D/A converter on LPT port,
	  or compatible devices
o Online help for editor keys
o Single keystroke switching between major program functions

Registered version includes:

o Real time recording via keyboard
   o EGA/VGA 43/50 line support
   o Track tracing
o Automatic saving of all samples in a MOD

ModEdit 3.0 is, I believe, the easiest and most intuitive MOD editor for
the IBM. Try it, and let me know what you think.

Ok, where is Chris Yuzik? I sent him 3 pieces of mail ages ago concerning problems I've been having with the UltraSound and haven't received a single reply! And where is he on here? We finally got a rep and he doesn't seem to play an active role in the
discussions on here. I hope someone from Gravis reads this and starts to make some changes.
