Has anyone out there gotten GUS to work with Falcon 3.0: Flying Tiger?
I've gotten music when I'm in the war room but I can't get any other
kind of sound to work at all. There's absolutely no sound at the
starting sequence of the F16 chasing the mig. I have 2 megs of memory
and talked to SH about it but he couldn't help me and said that he
hasn't gotten much complaint about GUS not working with Falcon.

Has anyone gotten Links 386 Pro to recognize the SBOS emulation
as a SB? It only recognizes it as a Adlib for me thus far.

There's no doubt in my mind that this mailing list is a great way to obtain
info about the GUS - I have one myself and already have gained a few tips
from the digest.

However, has anyone noticed that absolutely nothing's been posted about the
GUS on comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard since the digest went into effect? I just
feel that some of the newcomers to the net might not have heard about this
wonderful card and without any mention about it on c.s.i.p.s, they might
not even know of its existence. Not exactly the best way to advertise
the card, is it not?

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be better if the digest could be posted
to c.s.i.p.s on a daily basis? I'm sure a lot of the newcomers on the net
would appreciate it.

Gab.

Someone posted before, but I can't remember...

Where can I find some good "mod" files to use with my gus? I know I
should be using "winmod" (got it) to play 'em.

Anyway, I just upgraded my gus to 1meg (cost $41 with tax) now I can
play some of those midi files I could not. NOW if I only had the general
midi patches!!

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your interest (and your patience) with UltraSound. :)

In the future we will be making a driver for windows 3.1 that does
patch caching "on the fly." This should solve everyone's problems,
and also alleviate the need for programs like pload.

This and other updates will be available on our new BBS (which will be
up next week).

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Chris Yuzik

Re: Offboard memory parity error

I heard from a friend that the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 also has problems
with offboard memory parity errors on some "PC-brand" motherboards.
This would, according to my friend, be corrected by using an 8bit DMA
channel (DMA channel between 0 and 3 inclusive). Of course DMA 2 is
needed for the floppy controller, and DMA 0 is used for memory refresh
(i believe) on 8088 / 8086 machines. In the IBM PC-AT technical reference
manual, DMA 1 is reserved for SDLC. I don't know what that is, but I
always thought DMA 1 was available. DMA channels are typically used for
memory transfers to and from disks, streamers, scanners, soundcards...
meaning there are never enough DMA channels, at least 8bit ones. It should
be worth a try, to set up theUS on for instance DMA 3, to check wether
this has something to do with the offboard memory parity errors. The
problem with GUS could of course be something completely different...

Hasta la basta...
Christian
