XFce 4.0.3 for Solaris

REQUIREMENTS:

Platform:	SparcStation 5(sun4m)
CPU: 110Mhz SuperSparc
OS: Solaris 9
RAM: 96MB
Framebuffer:	cgsix (8 bit color)
Disk Space:	27 MB (more required during installation)

The above specifications represent the minimum TESTED configuration. XFce may
install and run on a lesser machine but is not guaranteed. If you successfully
get XFce to run on a lesser machine, please le me know by sending a quick e-mail to
Chris Greenman <sol-pkgs@ckgreenman.net>.

Other requirements include the standard XFce dependencies. A list of these
dependcies can be found on the XFce web site (www.xfce.org).

INSTALLATION:

Starting with the XFce 4.0.2 release, I have included a simple install script that
should take care of everything for you. All you need to do is unpack the source
tarball, cd to the XFce-<version> directory and run ./INSTALL.sh. The script will
prompt for the install destination then install all the packages.

If you choose NOT to use the included install script, please remember that there is
specific install order that must be followed. Please follow the order shown in the
"install-order" file. The default install path for all of the packages
(except XFCEdt) is /usr/local. To change the default install path you will
need to create an admin file and tell pkgadd to use it. The admin file should
contain the following line:

basedir=<new_install_path>

Replace <new_install_path> with the path to the directory where you want to
install XFce. Use pkgadd's "-a" (man pkgadd for more info) to force pkgadd
to use the new admin file.

To install XFCEdt manually, you will not need to use the admin file described above.
XFCEdt installs into / by default. DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL TO AN ALTERNATE PATH.
The XFCEdt package contains all the system updates required to integrate XFCE into
the Solaris Login Manager (dtlogin). You WILL , however, need to tell the XFCEdt
package where the other XFce packages were installed. To do this, simply create
/tmp/DESTPATH and insert the installation path into the file. The XFCEdt package's
postinstall script uses this file to correctly set the PATH variable in
/etc/dt/config/Xinitrc.XFce.

QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS/RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems, questions, or concerns
regarding the XFce for Solaris packages. I am willing to help out as much as I
can but bear in mind that I am NOT an official XFce developer. My contribution
to the XFce project is to compile and package the XFce Desktop Environment for
the Solaris platform (currently only on Sparc but that may change).

If you have any questions problems or concerns regarding XFce in general please
direct them to one of the forums listed on www.xfce.org

Enjoy!
